SO MUCH TO DO, SO LITTLE TIME . . .

It’s official, April is here and I am gasping for breath. There is so much happening and so many things to do

that my head is spinning—and I thought March was a busy month! First off, let me say that the line-up in this month’s magazine is so exciting! We have the modest and oh-so-

sweet Janet Jackson who never ceases to surprise. Brooke Shields is on board to talk about her new produc- tion at the Lee Strasburg Theatre in West Hollywood! Jay Bakker, the son of Tammy-Faye and Jim shares his enlightened beliefs about God and the Bible, while Dick Cavett shares his “legendary” stories and the former Queer Eye’d Ted Allen talks about food and fundraising. “Food, glorious food,” is it worth waiting for? I should say so! Fundraising season has officially started, and

there are many events worth mentioning. The extravaganza that is Mama’s Day is fast approaching (see page 12), if you love to eat, this is truly one of San Diego’s premier events. I have been for the past several years and it does not disappoint, and there is no gruel in sight! Next, make your reservations for Dining Out For Life at your favorite eatery and some or all of their proceeds will fund local charities. What a better way to show your support by having dinner at your favorite restaurants? (see page 16), the fight for HIV/AIDS funding for services is all the more relevant in these down times. Don’t forget Taste of Hillcrest on the 16th, which is another way to get your gastronomic tendencies satisfied. In Los Angeles, I will be desperately seeking the ladies of Wysteria Lane as I join them for their block party on

April 16. More food and another fantastic fundraiser, this one for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, it should be a doozy. I’ll have to remember to wear my bullet-proof vest—those ladies scare me just a little! The GLAAD Media Awards top off the Los Angeles circuit; I’m dusting off my tuxedo to hob-nob with the stars—mercy, what’s a boy to do!? This month is a milestone for me, I will officially cross over the half-century mark. I still can’t believe I‘m here

at what I used to think was ancient—50? Good god, what the heck? It’s not that I’m not at peace with my age, but truly, who likes getting older? I feel about the same as I did when I was 30—luckily I’m blessed with good health and am almost as active as I was then. There is so much information out there and so much more on the horizon teaching us how to have a fulfilling life—there is no reason that we have to “slow down.” Take a look at page 62 for a wonderful testimonial about what is new in what they call “age management.” It just goes to show you that you don’t have to take it lying down. I for one intend to take it to the limit, like my sweet friend David B says: “Life should not be a journey to

the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, covered in scars, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming ‘yahoo, what a ride!’”

And like I say to my younger friends: “Just try to keep up!”
