READY, SET, RENTAL! Make your rental affordable
when temps or humidity are high. Not all rentals come with a dishwasher,
washer and dryer. So unless you’re bringing your own maid with you, be sure to check the list of amenities before signing any rental agreement. No wants to be running to the local laundromat or always in the kitchen on vacation. A picture might be worth a thousand
RENTALS ALLOW FOR PERKS LIKE BRINGING YOUR OWN BIKES D
REAMING ABOUT renting a house at the shore for a week or two but feel like you can’t afford it?
Here are some simple tricks for making your dream rental a little more affordable!
Location, Location, Location! We all would love a spacious, oceanfront beach house with a private pool. But when you get right down to it, what do you actually need? Do you really have to be right on the beach or is a short walk acceptable? Do your kids really need their own bedrooms
for a week when all they’ll be doing is sleeping there for eight hours? Picking a location a bit off the beaten path and bunking up are two of the best ways to save on a rental.
Read the Fine Print While location and number of bedrooms are negotiable, other amenities can be a deal-breaker. Central air-conditioning is at the top of that list for most of us. Even those lovely ocean breezes might not be enough to cool you down and keep you comfortable
words, but being able to check out a rental – yourself, a trusted friend or family member – is the best way to make sure the beach house is as close to what you need - and expect – as possible. Rentals rarely come with sheets and tow-
els but many real estate agencies give you the option of renting your linens. Expect to pay around $75/week for sheets and towels for a family of four. Even without linens, some weekly rentals
do come with perks. Beach tags might be included or the use of beach chairs and umbrellas. And many have outdoor grills, so you can stay “in” a night or two and have a family barbecue. Some rentals come fully stocked with paper products or at least with enough to get you through the first day while others are strictly bring your own. ■
