County woman leaders honored at annual spring Conference

Over 600 people filled the Indianapolis Marriott East for IFB’s annual Spring Conference, held March 11 and 12. “We heard incredible comments on the speaker and breakout session line-


up,” said Isabella Chism, IFB 2nd vice president. “Members left the confer- ence ready to take what they learned and put it to use in their communities.” Jan Uhlmansiek of Dear- born County was recognized for earning the most points in the County Woman Lead- er Leadership Incentive Pro-


gram. CWLs earn points for leadership and participation in Farm Bureau and relevant community activities. Five CWLs who earned 150- 299 points were awarded a camp chair; 36 CWLs earned 300 points or more to receive an IFB sweater. The state winners of the

Sen. Richard Lugar/IFB/IFB Insurance Essay Contest were named. Collin Bowlin of Jasper (Dubois County, District 9) and Alexis J. Car- mony of Falmouth (Rush County, District 8) were the state winners. They earned a trip to Washington, D.C., for their essays on the theme of “Agriculture: Then and Now.” The 20 finalists, one boy and one girl from each IFB district, received a $50 U.S. Savings Bond. Two auctions were held to benefit the USO of Indi- ana. The silent auction (and voluntary donations) raised $3,264, and the live auction raised $3,030, for a total of $6,294.
