Classes of ’71 and ’76 in Reunion October 21-23, 2011
Leah Settle Gibbs ’70 co-authored a history book about the town of Amherst, Va., titled Amherst: From Taverns to a
Town.Amherst celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2010, and the authors did not want their book to read like a regular history book, but rather something fun. Leah lives not far from Amherst in Monroe, Va.
Edwin Gulick Jr. ’70,who is married to Barbara Licht- fuss ’70, accepted an appointment as assistant bishop in the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia effective January 1, 2011.
Charles “Chuck” Collings ’73 has been named to the Board of Trustees at Lynchburg College. After graduating from LC, he was a vice president of C.C. Collings & Co., Inc. a family securities brokerage business, in Philadelphia. He is currently a senior vice president with Smith Barney’s Bryn Mawr, Pa., office.
Kathryn Mitchell Pumphrey ’75, ’88 M.Ed., LC trustee and LC Alumni Association president, was selected as one of this year’s honorees for the Lynchburg Academy of Women, which recognizes women for their leadership and accomplishments in their fields and their contributions to the community. She has served as executive vice president of Centra Health Foundation for thirteen years. She holds a doctoral degree in higher education from the University of Virginia and a master’s in administration and bachelor’s cum laude from Lynchburg College. She serves as a deacon and chair at First Presbyterian Church. She is married to Richard ’74, and they have two children. The family lives in Lynchburg.

Top Right: F. Edward “Ed” Williams Jr. ’73, ’76 M.Ed., a U.S. Peace Corps response volunteer, just returned from Buhungiro, Uganda. For one year, Ed promoted teaching strategies and administration procedures to a very rural Buhungiro Primary Teachers College. Throughout the year, his outreach to local community children promoted peace and friendship, a principal goal of the Peace Corps. Ed calls Gladstone, Va., home when not on assignment.

Bari Budowle Kahn ’76 has been named a new gifted teacher for the Buena Vista, Va. school system. She attended the State University of New York at Binghamton and Lynchburg College. She holds a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education, and a master’s degree in education with an emphasis on early childhood and elementary education. Bari lives in Lexington, Va.
James “Jim” Storms ’76 has retired from thirty-four years of dedicated service to the FBI, where he made significant differences to improve quality in several programs as a senior executive. He has taken on a new opportunity in the private sector as director of government sector for Structure Tone in Arlington, Va. His wife Vivian Giambalvo Storms ’76 retired as an early childhood educator of thirty-one years. They live in Herndon, Va.
Andrew Tatom ’78 has been named to the Board of Trustees at Lynchburg College. He received a B.S. in physical therapy from Old Dominion University and opened Seven Hills Physical Therapy in 1983. The clinic later became Associated Physical Therapists (APT). In 1996, APT merged with Rehabilitation Associates of Central Virginia (RACV), which has eight locations throughout Central Virginia.
