nother life saved. Dan

Baggett, our junior sports manager, was supporting our teams at the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference’s basketball tourna- ment at Washington Athletic Club in Seattle on March 4. Our Golden Masters were playing the WAC team when one of WAC’s members went to the bench and collapsed. While many stood in shock, Dan moved in and took control. Using the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) the club had handy, he defibrillated the member and began compressions before the player came around.

That is not the first time a member of our staff has used an AED, as they have been needed and called to action at MAC several times. This brings to light the value of the behind-the-scenes training our staff receives on an on-going basis, and the use of the tech- nology available to best serve our members. Almost all of our staff goes through some emergency response training, and many receive CPR and first aid training as well. The next time you see a staff member wearing a neon vest and carrying a walkie- talkie when the fire alarm is ringing following a notification that it is only a drill, know that our staff is preparing to respond like Dan did, whenever the opportunity presents itself. In other behind-the-scenes training,

Head Swim Coach Alex Nikitin and his staff continue to teach and motivate the swim team. That same weekend in March, MAC’s 15-16 boys 200 medley team won the state meet at Mount Hood, breaking a 10-year-old national record time. Other MAC swimmers were competing in Indianapolis and came within fractions of a second of Olympic Trial qualifying times. These accomplishments are a tribute to the caliber of MAC athletes and the unique training they receive from our coaches.

(Note: The WAC member is doing fine

with a stent in his artery, and has been told he should be able to return to basketball soon.) I look forward to seeing you around the club this spring. WM
