Coach Peter Rosinski’s defending Division I boys’ basketball squad from Pinkerton Academy closed out its 2010-11 regular sea- son on a bit of a down note with a 53-35 loss to the tough Trinity High Pioneers of Manchester in Derry last Friday, March 4. The Astros finished up right at the .500 mark with a 9-9 record, with the loss ending a modest, three- game winning streak the PA bunch had put together. The Pioneers wound up at 15-3, winning eight of their final nine games of the regular season.

Veteran Kevin Colbert and his Pinkerton Academy bas- ketball teammates ended their regular season with a 53-35 loss to the tough Trinity squad late last week. The Astros finished up at 9-9 on the campaign.

test, both squads awaited the New Hampshire Interscho- lastic Athletic Association’s postings of the Division I seedings to find out whom they’d play first in the tour- nament. Trinity raced out to a 14- 6 lead in the first quarter of

the regular season-ending battle, and by halftime the Manchester-based club’s advantage sat at 10 points (27-17).

The visitors then out- scored their hosts by a 26-18 margin in the second half to put the final touches on the victory. Pinkerton didn’t have

anybody in their lineup fin- ish with double figures in points, although veterans Chad Park and Mark Piechowiak each netted nine. Both of those Astros had some success with their long-range bombing as each nailed a trio of three-point- ers to get to their point totals. Pinkerton also re- ceived a single trey from Kevin Colbert. The Pinkerton guys had

raised themselves back up over the .500 mark on the road three evenings before with a 73-54 thumping of the struggling Exeter High Blue Hawks. It was the academy side’s third consec- utive win, and Exeter’s sixth straight loss. Coach Rosinski’s PA

crew powered its way out to a 20-9 lead in the first quar- ter, and by halftime the visi- tors’ advantage sat at seven points at 29-22.

The host Blue Hawks made some inroads on their deficit in the third quarter, and entered the final period

down by just four points at 48-44. But the Pinkerton side enjoyed an exceptional fourth quarter, outscoring its host by a 25-10 margin to win the game with a flour- ish.

The skilled quartet of

Colbert, Chris Light, Alex Patrikis, and Piechowiak accounted for 60 of the 73 Pinkerton points.

The PA guys ended up with the 10th tournament seed, and were slated to play the seventh-ranked London- derry High Lancers in a pre- liminary-round game at the New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord this past Tuesday, March 8, after the Nutfield News went to press.
