As if by magic, this enigmatic new outdoor lantern by Astro Lighting illuminates without any apparent source of light. Puzzle is a perfect example of Astro’s design ingenuity; the discreet illumination comes from LEDs hidden from view inside the top horizontal edge of the light. Puzzle solved! Combining classic styling with modern technology, Puzzle has a refined matt black frame and clear glass shade with elegant proportions (320mm height x 160mm width x 140mm projection from the wall).

MID Lighting has supplied its latest Trimlite Microprim range of recessed luminaires for Haymarket House. The design team required a fitting that could be installed in both a metal tile for the offices and to suit a plasterboard ceiling for the notional corridors, perimeter areas and the toilets. The plasterboard 35W T5 version was supplied in both modular and continuous lengths with a trimless flange so only the microprim diffuser was visible. There was a special 21W IP rated adaptation for use above the sinks of the disabled toilets and an emergency option was also supplied.

The new DL11 LED downlight from Cooper Lighting and Safety, a business unit of Cooper Safety, has been designed as a direct replacement for tungsten halogen dichroic downlights. As well as offering a 70 per cent energy saving, it also provides a long life of 50,000 hours, which dramatically reduces maintenance costs by eliminating the need for regular lamp changes. The downlight uses multi-die LED chip technology to deliver a high luminaire efficacy of more than 50 lm/W.

Landscape architecture firm Dan Pearson Studio recently installed the visually striking Strobilus major pendant from lighting specialists Paviom. Designed by Jonathon Coles, the Strobilus major takes inspiration from the open pinecone and utilises 100 leaves made from 100 per cent recycled paper pulp mounted on a recyclable body. The overall effect is a soft and organic shape that brings a warm and pleasing ambience to the studio.
