APC by Schneider Electric has introduced the integration of
InfraStruxure Operations with VMware vSphere to enable vendor-neutral inventory management, real-time analysis and automated resolution recommendations. The integration ensures that VMware vSphere is aware of critical physical infrastructure alarms and events, including power, cooling, security and environment, and can execute corrective actions to move virtual machines to non impacted areas within the data centre. Through the integration, InfraStruxure Operations couples events from the physical infrastructure layer with information from the VMware virtual machines. This integration translates critical physical infrastructure events into server impact analysis, identifying how events will impact the host machines in a virtualised environment. The result of the impact analysis will prompt a migration of the virtual machines away from the affected hosts onto unaffected host servers.
conjunction with Infoblox, a developer of network infrastructure automation and control solutions, recently conducted a survey on the usage of automated network management tools and technologies. The survey revealed that 80% of enterprise IT network managers claim to be adopting network automation tools, citing drivers such as reduced error rates, time savings and enabling significant new projects such as virtualisation, cloud computing, IPv6 and compliance rollouts. However, the number of human errors occurring monthly remained at an average of five to six. Respondents most commonly indicated that 16 to 30% of their network team’s daily administrative tasks had been automated – no longer requiring manual intervention or script adaption. Yet over 80% of respondents admitted that network configuration errors requiring corrective actions are being introduced through human/ manual mistakes on a regular basis. Five to six such errors were experienced per month on average, with some users experiencing ten or more per month.

Following William Hague’s speech outlining cyber threats,
and yet more high profile attacks, Paul Hanley, Information Security Director, KPMG, has commented on the importance of IP security. “Recent information security breaches reflect a worrying trend of very targeted hacking. Hackers have business heads in their sights as it gives them access to the most sensitive information, such as intellectual property and investment plans. “Such sensitive information requires
encryption or other protection, and all businesses need to start at least discussing the wider implementation of such security tactics. Prevention, monitoring and detection (PMD) are key stages to securing business systems but immediate response is imperative as soon as a breach becomes apparent.” Hanley is urging companies to recognise the threat, and to act before it is too late. “Policies and procedures need to be put in place now to investigate attacks, and to shape necessary communication with investors, stakeholders and, in some cases, the public. “Information security attacks are a very real threat – they happen daily and just because a business or a business leader were not on a hacker’s radar yesterday doesn’t ensure safety today.”

Around 100 resellers took part in Nimans’ inaugural webinar
about how the addition of Panasonic IP CCTV can help them to capitalise on new sales opportunities. Resellers logged on to gain an insight into the uses and benefits of IP CCTV systems as part of the hour-long ‘taster’ session. One of the biggest talking points was the launch of a Panasonic demonstration van which can drive to either a reseller or end user site to show the technology in operation. In addition, NCP and TDE comms platforms can also be showcased as part of an ‘all-in-one-solution’.
The UK’s ‘Red Nose Day’ took place this year on the 18th March,
when the public was asked to ‘Do Something Funny for Money’. Comic Relief ’s core technology partners for this year’s event were: Carrenza, Oracle, Cisco, HP, PayPal, VMware, WorldPay and Zeus Technology.
