because of our commitment to offering local university students the opportunity to hone their media skills through work placements with MERSEY MAGAZINE.
Liverpool Hope University was represented at the exhibition by Sean Clift and he was more than happy to explain the reasons for their involvement He said, “There are a number of different avenues we are keen to explore. First and foremost we want to raise the profile of the University in looking to invite businesses into the University and create those business links .“There are a number of opportunities for us to work with them in a number of different ways. One of them is to offer a brand new facility which is a conference centre which support stage exhibitions, follow ups, launches and the like. It is an absolutely fantastic facility and we are very proud of it “We are also keen to promote our Continuing Professional Development courses which we offer at the University. We have got fantastic academics who can give you short courses to help improve your knowledge in various areas
“Another very important role we have here is to try to gain for our students work placements with small and medium sized enterprises in the local area “We have fantastic students in the University and local companies should be tapping into the wealth of talent we can offer them to help the success of their businesses.
Sean believes that companies such as MERSEY MAGAZINE, which offer placements, are providing a massive boost to students as they think in terms of what they will do when their courses are complete. He said, “It is absolutely imperative to try to get placements for
our students. Looking at the economy today we have a surplus of graduates who come out of University and struggle to find a job.
“Many of them will have not had the sort of work experience MERSEY MAGAZINE is offering “They find themselves struggling to find that first job, to get that first step on the ladder or the first foot in the door. To get that experience of complementing the theory with the work practice can be invaluable for them”,
We were curious to find out if the exhibi- tion was working for the University in the areas Sean had defined and he was mas- sively positive when related some of the days developments He said, “We have had quite a big interest in the internship programme. The success of Liverpool business is built on small to medium sized companies. They might not be able to take on a graduate for a full year in terms of a £20,000 salary, but they might be able to take them on for three months at a time, or if they get a big contract in they might need a graduate in quickly to offer the extra support they would need “It is essential for graduates to get early hands on experience out of the academic world and into the commercial side”
