Last January Playmusic were very fortunate to be invited to the International Final of the Boss Loop Station World Championships in Anaheim, Los Angeles. The event featured an incredible assembly of looping talent from as far afield as Japan and Europe, who all employed the Boss Loop Station as their main tool for generating their amazing sound-on-sound music, completely live! The world Looping title was eventually scooped by UK beat box vocal
artist Shlomo, whose stunning looped rhythmic vocal pyrotechnics blew away the crowd. Boss makes three different versions of the Loop Station, with the RC-3 coming in the form of the ever popular Boss compact pedal design.
Small but packed with features, the Boss RC-3 keeps you in the loop!
Loop of the day Small it may be but don’t underestimate the RC-3’s phenomenal power! For starters the RC-3 doesn’t skimp on memory; it contains a maximum of three hours recording time – the longest recording time ever from a pedal looper - and a very generous facility for loop storage with 99 separate on-board memories that offer the user the flexibility to store anything from tiny sound samples or loops comprising entire songs. If you haven’t tried looping before it can sometimes be a bit tricky to match the tempo in order to make your loops sound seamless but the RC-3’s Auto Quantize makes it a piece of cake to lock your loops in so that they sound completely in time and tight. Every time. Many performing loopers like Shlomo prefer to generate their loops themselves, either via their vocals or a musical instrument but the RC-3 also contains several built-in rhythm tracks – featuring real drums - to jam along with, which is great both for getting a cool live jam up and running but also for solo practicing. Stereo I/O also opens up several ways for creative loopers to send the signal to separate amplifiers or even side chain different effects between the left and right outputs, plus a choice of mains and 9v battery power means allied to the RC-3’s portable size means that you can easily generate amazing loops anywhere.
