It is not often that you can combine shopping, Morris dancing and Easter Egg hunts and create a fabulous day out for the whole family. But The Orchards Shopping Centre in Haywards Heath have organised an entire weekend of celebrations to mark Easter and St George’s Day.


entertainment and family fun. “The Orchards is a local shopping centre and it comes with a need to be community based. It is important we get in touch with the community and to encourage everyone to get involved,” says Ian Goodridge, Centre Manager. The Orchards gets 100,000 visitors every week with 20,000 shoppers passing through it on Saturdays, and Easter weekend celebrations are expected to attract even more people. The celebrations kick off on Good Friday, 22nd April, with Easter Entertainment from 10am-4pm. A magician will be around to enchant and delight with his wizardry and a face painter is providing glitter tattoos and Easter face painting. Children can get involved in craft workshops and make their own Easter Baskets which will be fi lled with chocolate eggs and an Easter Egg hunt will keep them thoroughly entertained. Egg cards spelling the word ‘Easter’ will be hidden in shop windows and, with giant Lindt chocolate bunnies as

prizes, adults will want to help out as much as possible in an attempt to get a bite of the prize. From 12-1pm, Matt Black will perform, supported by local artists. Matt, known as ‘Mr Piano Man’, has entertained with his music for over 20 years. Not only is he a brilliant pianist, he is also an entertainer and a great comedian, performing to celebrities and royalty. The main event happens on St George’s


Day itself, Saturday 23rd April. These days, it is rare to commemorate the Patron Saint of England but The Orchards are providing locals with the opportunity to celebrate England’s national day and take pride in being English. Mak Norman of Bright FM has put his passions for


traditional English customs into creating the celebrations which appeal to all, from the die-hard folk fan to the casual shopper and family looking for fun. Folk music, crafts, dance and entertainment are all provided free at the shopping centre from 10am-4pm to keep our history and traditions alive. “We’ve always been successful in promoting the traditional English side of things. We aim to create an event for all with a village green type atmosphere. There will be something
