Beaver Valley Farm, 17 Main Street, Pelham, knows that they are off the beaten path, but customers can easily find them. Located down a long dirt drive right off Main St., diagonally across from St. Patrick School, the flowers and sounds of spring that can be heard are a welcome sight along Beaver Brook. Year after year, season after season, more customers continue to discover Beaver Valley Farm. Long time shoppers at Beaver Valley Farms agree, “They are
convenient, courteous, and just great people.” Store Manager, Brenda Seniow, comments, “Customers come here because they know we can help them and give them personal service, as well as personal attention. We care about our customers and we know most of them by name. Our customers will not become lost in an open-space shopping experience with no idea of how to get help.” Beaver Valley Farm is a family-owned business built on family
values. Named after Beaver Brook, which runs alongside Beaver Valley Farm, owners Donn and Donna Clark purchased the business in 1983. At that time, the location also was used mainly as an Appaloosa Horse Farm. The store is stocked full of healthy pet foods, treats, everyday supplies, livestock feeds, and unique and unusual items as well. Products from Innova, Evo, Karma, California Natural, and HealthWise line the shelves of Beaver Valley Farm, offering their customers a wide selection of both super, premium, and healthy, economical choices for pets. Further choices can be made from Blue Seal, Propac, Eukanuba, Iams, Merrick, Nutro Max, Poulin, Proplan, Wellness, Science Diet, as well as other brands. Beaver Valley Farm also carries over “3,000 bird feeders, seeds, seed mixes, and accessories to suit all your backyard birding fun,” stated Seniow. “In the spring, we have thousands of blooming annuals, along with a wide variety of herbs and vegetables. You can browse our hardy plants … as well as a selection of flowering trees and shrubs, most locally grown and with a two- year warranty.” Beaver Valley Farm grows over 6,000 perennials for their customers and carries a full line of spring garden products. Now arriving are all the fertilizers and seeds to kick off spring growth, as well as a steady stream of annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, and decorative plants coming in over the next month or two. Beaver Valley Farm is now the only full-service garden center in Pelham.
Not to be left undone, fall landscaping products, including mums, corn stalks, scarecrows, pumpkins, gourds, and straw for customers’ fall decorating needs, will be lined up neatly when the crisp weather comes back. Involvement with the local community is very important to Beaver Valley Farm. Owner Donna Clark has long been involved with Animal Rescue Network of New England. Beaver Valley Farm donates food to local dog shelters, as well as other local organizations. Beaver Valley Farm also donates to local groups in and around Pelham. Mention that you’re going to the dentist, and
you’ll probably be met with a groan or look of sympathy. Odds are that you didn’t have a place like Collins Dentistry for Children in Pelham to start you out on the right track to dental health.
New experiences can be scary for kids, especially if they aren’t presented properly. Dr. Nilfa Collins recognizes the needs to provide a comfortable setting for kids to begin them on the road to good oral health care, and wanted to do what she could to assist in the prevention of dental disease in youngsters. According to Dr. Nilfa, as she is known
by her patients and their parents, “Pediatric dentists emphasize the establishment of trust and confidence with their patients.” She uses a special office design, different communication styles, and places an emphasis on teaching preventative dental habits to children in an effort to make dental visits pleasant for children. Citing studies that show poor oral heath care in kids can actually lead to decreased school performance and poor social relationships; Dr. Nilfa discusses her approach to patient care. “I give advice on how to promote strong and healthy teeth, the importance on developing healthy eating habits, and other ways to prevent the formation of cavities.”
At Collins Dentistry for Children, children are encouraged to touch the instruments and ask questions. Child-friendly terms are used, such as “sleepy juice” for Novocain, and “tickling your teeth” rather than cleaning teeth. The staff finds what works best for each child as an individual, which may account for the growing number of referrals to friends and families by current patients. Dr. Nilfa said, “I find it tremendously satisfying when young patients tell their parents that they enjoyed their visit, and that having a cavity filled didn’t hurt at all. We definitely believe that our patients are our strongest advocates.” The practice performs all aspects of pediatric dentistry, including examinations and consultations, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealant applications, restorative procedures such as fillings, extractions, and more recently, orthodontics with a free consultation. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentists (AAPD) currently suggests that children

begin being seen when they get their first tooth, which is often when they are about a year old. At Collins Dentistry for Children, you’ll see toddlers to college-age patients, as well as some older clients with special needs. Dr. Nilfa has extensive training with special-needs patients, enabling her to continue to see them beyond the age of most of her other patients. Newly added Orthodontic (Braces) services make Collins Dentistry a one-stop visit for families needing dental care for children. Dr. John Miceli joined Collins Dentistry in 2009, and he and Dr. Collins have expanded services. Dr. Miceli earned his degree as a Doctor in Dental Medicine (DMD) in 1972 from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. He then went on to study Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry and earned his Master in Science in Orthodontics (MScD). While attending college, Dr. Miceli enlisted in the United States Navy Reserves and attained the designation of hospital corpsman. Immediately after completing his formal dental education, he served his Country as a military Orthodontist, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander, gaining invaluable experience in his Specialty. After completing his tour of active duty in the European theatre and returning to Massachusetts, he went into private practice including director of a multi-specialty dental practice in Boston.
As an experienced Orthodontist with outstanding clinical skills, Dr. Miceli is introduced the Practice of Orthodontics to Collins Dentistry for Children where he continues to dedicate himself to quality Orthodontics.
