Rinnai Buderus “Thumbs down – to the uniformed people

who continue to anonymously post comments in this section which are not based in fact or reality. Salem Police work a 4 on / 2 off schedule which nets 5 DAYS per week. The Salem Police Benevolent Assoc is completely separate from the Salem IBPEW Officers Union and includes all 3 unions in the department and management. The SPBA donates time and money throughout the community- again NOTHING to do with the union or negotiations. Signed, Shawn J. Patten, Deputy Chief of Police, email: spatten@salempd. com.”

“Thumbs down. You couldn’t keep the real

you from coming out on Saturday with your rants towards Boss Hog. Maybe it’s time you made a full disclosure on why you were run out of Methuen and share some of those complaints that women made against you to the Police?”

“Thumbs down. Madam Chairman asked you what your work schedule was next Friday and if you could attend the GOALS meeting and have pizza with the crew and you froze. What, can’t say, ‘I don’t work’ on local television? And what do you think you are going to do with all those union contracts? They are already negotiated, and by your saying it’s going to be hard to negotiate new one’s only fuels an unfair labor practice!...”

go yet another year without a pay raise. Yes, taxpayers know how long it’s been since they got more money but we also know how long it’s been since many friends, family and neighbors in the private sector have had no job at all. School employees have gone without a raise but they’ve have a steady paycheck not to mention health insurance, holidays, sick days and summers off when probably most of them pick up some extra work. Sure, many teachers

probably do serve up ‘emotional support, worldly guidance, classroom help’ and many other wonderful things. But, if a teacher feels he or she is not being properly rewarded for a job that he or she chooses to do, the exit door is always open. Mass exodus anyone?”

“Thumbs down to the man complaining about

picking up hypodermic needles on the side of the road. Do you know anything about infection? Why would you pick up dirty needles? The person who used those needles could have and probably did have some kind of contagious infectious disease such as AIDS, HIV and or Hepatitis. Next time you find dirty contaminated needles on the side of the road, use your head and give the police a call. And it would probably be a good idea to make an appointment with your doctor

“Thumbs down to all the younger people in the

town that want their roads fixed, they want this, they want that. What about the retired and elderly people in town, now that the taxes went up 2-3 hundred dollars again this year on their property. These people don’t think of the elderly they just think of themselves. They only one trying to fight it is Stephen Campbell and he is trying to keep the budget down. We do have Mr. McBride who is out of there, now and since the election we have not seen hide nor hair of him in town anymore,

This guy is a spendthrift with our money. I am very disappointed with the items at the last deliberative session in Salem. Go away Mr. Ackerly. And to Susan Colby who was reelected, what is wrong with the voters of Salem? This lady with be in lock-step with Michael Lyons and Elizabeth Roth and the votes will be 3-2 on the board of selectmen. Miss Colby if you are smart you will separate yourself. If not you will be gone just like Mr. McBride was.”

St. Joseph’s Merges Academic Programs

submitted by St. Joseph Regional Catholic School St. Joseph Regional Catholic School (SJRCS) announces the merger of its Kindergarten and Pre-Kindergarten program with Grades 1 to 8, creating a single Pre-K to 8 Catholic academic program for the town of Salem. The Kindergarten and Pre-K are currently parish programs of the Parish of Saints Mary and Joseph. As a Pre-K to grade 8 school, SJRCS can now focus on creating a consistent and seamless curriculum and faith formation.

Principal Sam Scuderi said, “St. Joseph Regional Catholic School has served its New Hampshire and Massachusetts communities for 51 years. With a newly expanded program, our faith-filled school looks forward to serving our community, parents, and students. Our alumni are a source of pride who achieve well in local high schools, in college, and beyond.” The school parish sponsors also include St. Luke the Evangelists, Plaistow; St. Matthew, Windham; and St. Anne, Hampstead.

submitted by Barron School Fourth Grade In fourth grade at Barron, students and teachers are amazed at how fast this year is flying by! Students have been so productive this quarter, working hard in all subject areas. In the midst of studying the regions of the U.S. and taking numerous quizzes on the states, capitals, and major landforms in our country, fourth-grade students were assigned a “Create a State” project. This assignment asked students to use their imaginations to come up with a creative state name, capital city, and a variety of landforms and points of interest that fit with their theme. Projects were completed and returned to school last week for students to share. The finished products were impressive and demonstrated the great effort and hard work put forth by our students. Way to go!

yes on the road bond, and to those who voted in road repairs at the 2nd Town Deliberative Session. It’s too bad that Stephen Campbell campaigned against the bond, which would have spread out our tax payments over several years and kept our road program on target. Instead, concerned citizens went to the Deliberative Session and the majority there voted to repair roads by paying cash. One way or another, we need to get our roads fixed. I’d rather pay cash than nothing at all, but it would have been smarter for Salem to finance the roads through a bond. I wonder if Mr. Campbell will ever get smart about money. Anyone with any kind of business sense knows that you need to spend money to save money in the long run, and this is particularly true of

infrastructure. Waiting on the roads makes them even more expensive to fix. Hopefully people will remember this next election season and make smarter decisions for our Town.

As the months pass, fourth-grade math concepts become more and more challenging. Students have been using half- and full-circle protractors to measure angles. Our World Tour continues as students use map scales to measure distances from one country to another. In addition, students have been using the Partial Products division algorithm to solve problems with double-digit divisors. Students are beginning to realize how important it is to know math facts for quick recall, as knowledge of these facts is necessary in completing division problems with speed and accuracy. Let’s keep earning those Mighty Mathematician awards! Looking forward to spring, fourth-grade teachers are beginning to prepare for an economics unit and sale, the Science NECAP assessment, and an interesting study of New Hampshire. We are sure hoping to see spring sooner rather than later!
