Robert A. DeAmicis, Jr.
Robert A. DeAmicis, Jr., 59, of Salem, died March 17, 2011, at his home. He was born in Waltham,
MA, where he grew up and attended schools. He was a resident of Salem for the past 27 years. Bob owned and operated
Grampy’s Pizzeria in Hampstead. He enjoyed woodworking, riding his Harley Davidson, and tinkering around the house. He is survived by his wife, Judy (Duffin) DeAmicis of Salem; daughters, Erica and her husband Mark Deputy of Derry, and Carrie and her husband Garth Christensen of Hardwick, VT; son, Robert DeAmicis III of Littleton;
stepdaughter, Jennifer Cooper of Hampstead; mother, Barbara (Mazzarini) DeAmicis of Waltham, MA; brothers, Richard DeAmicis of Townsend, MA, and Alan DeAmicis of Marlboro, MA; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass was celebrated March 21 at St.
Joseph Church, Salem. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem. Memorial Donations may be made to Make-

John J. LaPlante
John Joseph LaPlante, 63, of Salem, died with pride March 20, 2011, at Tufts Medical Center after a valiant 10 year battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. John was born in Lawrence, MA, the son of the late Mary (Langtry) and Paul LaPlante. He graduated from Woodbury High School in 1965 and from University of New Hampshire in 1969. John married Susan Gile in 1969 and he
entered Air Force pilot training in Selma, AL. His 37-plust year career in the USAF included active duty during Vietnam and reserve duties. He was a pilot for Delta Air Lines for 20 years and his passion for flying lasted his lifetime. He had a love of family, country and the outdoors. Upon retirement, his pastimes included volunteering weekly at Parkland Medical Center, traveling with his wife, boating at Lake Winnipesaukee, motorcycling with the ROMEOs, downhill skiing, swapping jokes and flight stories
with the QBs, driving NASCAR race cars and watching his children and grandchildren grow to their best potential. He is a parishioner of St. Joseph Church. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Susan (Gile) LaPlante; two children, son Marc and his wife Kristen, and daughter Debi LaPlante and her husband David Forbes, all of Salem; brother Paul, Jr. and his wife Johanne of Dade City, FL; and four grandchildren, Austin and Ashley LaPlante and Gavin and Aiden Forbes; as well as nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held March 24 at St.

Ernest C. ‘Ernie’ Wood, Jr. Ernest C. “Ernie” Wood, Jr., 78, of Salem, died
on March 9, 2011, at Pleasant Valley Nursing Home, Derry. Ernie was born in Everett, MA, and was raised and educated in North Reading, MA. He was a graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology with the class of 1957 and received a bachelor’s degree from Fitchburg State College in 1985. He was employed by Raytheon Co., Andover, MA, as a manager of logistics and support for over 35 years. Ernie was an avid reader, gardener, woodworker and he loved to travel.
The widower of Dorothy A. (Scott) Wood, to
whom he was married for 50 years, his family members include his sons, Nathaniel E. Wood and Thomas C. Wood, both of Salem. He was predeceased by his son, David E.
Wood.

Velardo, 83, of Salem, died March 18, 2011, at Community Hospice House in Merrimack, after a short illness. Yvette was born and educated in Berlin, the daughter of the late Helen (Robard) and Silvio Ouellette. Yvette and her husband Leo shared their home at Franz Acres on Arlington Pond where she was very active. They were married for 65 years and had lived in East Boston, MA, for 23 years and in Salem for 42 years.
Yvette was a professional singer in her youth. She enjoyed all crafts and she enjoyed playing bingo at the Ingram Senior Center. She is survived by her husband Leo Velardo of Salem; her brother Robert Ouellette, her nephew David and niece Cynthia Bennett, all of Louisiana. Cynthia was her favorite niece and she was by her side the whole month after her surgery. Funeral services were private for the family. Arrangements were in the care of Douglas

William W. Howard
William W. Howard, 70, of Salem, died March 20, 2011, at the VA Medical Center in Brockton, MA. Bill was born and educated in New York, the son of the late Lois (Riker) and Paul Howard. He served in the Air Force. He was an employee of Home Depot in Salem for 16 years. Bill enjoyed
bowling and loved golfing. He was a Life Member of the VFW and an avid Patriots fan. He is survived by four sisters, Lois Pauline Henderson and Barbara Howard, both of North Carolina, and Marlene Regoord and Donna Ikewood, both of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews. premises and refuses to leave, peace restored. 3:07 p.m. Unwanted subject, Red Roof Lane, subjects that would not leave earlier are still there and are refusing to leave, subjects have left. 5:43 p.m. Assist other agency, Veterans Memorial Parkway, state police has one in custody coming to Salem police, subject bailed. 6:33 p.m. Damage to property, Sullivan Court, caller requests an officer for her daughter who was taking off the screen door she bought, they were in a fight and the daughter bought the door so she is now taking it back, all parties counseled. 8:25 p.m. Dispute, officer requested by husband, wife is yelling and throwing things around, two small children are present, female was transported to another residence to spend the night. 9:32 p.m. Suspicious activity, Theodore Avenue, caller reporting someone looking in the windows of the residence driving an older model pickup truck, officer has the vehicle stopped on Haverhill Road and North Main Street, subject trespassed from the property, subject was attempting to deliver court documents.

James J. Fox, III, 42, of Salem, died March 16, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his family, after a brief battle with cancer. Jimmy was born in Port
Chester, NY, grew up and was educated in Long Island, NY. He was a resident of Salem for the past four years. Detective Fox was a member of the Salem Police Department for the past six years. He previously served as a member of the Rochester Police Department. He was a member of the Salem Police Benevolent Association, New Hampshire Police Association and the New England Police Benevolent Association. He was a two time recipient of New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council’s “Looking Beyond the Traffic Ticket” DWI Hunter Award. He received several awards during his tenure with Salem Police Department, which include Certificates of Commendations, a Unit Citation and he was a three time recipient of the Department’s Meritorious Service Award. He was named Detective of the Year for his work in 2010 and will be honored at this year’s Salem Police Department’s Awards Banquet. He was an active volunteer in the community. He participated in the Relay for Life, Salem Police Department’s Open

House, National Night Out and Salem Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy. He was also a volunteer coach for Salem Youth Baseball, the Salem Wolves Indoor Football Team and the Salem Rams. Most of all, Jimmy loved his wife and four sons and enjoyed spending time with them. He was predeceased by his mother, Annette (Grossi) Scipione. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer (Roy) Fox of Salem; four sons, James J. Fox, IV, Joshua C. Fox, Justin T. Fox, and Joseph R. Fox, all of Salem; his father, James J. Fox, Jr., of New York; sisters, Danielle Scipione Beller and Donna Marie Scipione, both of New York; several nieces and nephews, Gabriel, Kathleen, Austin, Caleb, Cooper, Brianna, and Guilliano. Funeral services were held March 22 at Mary Queen of Peace Church in Salem. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem. Cheryl K. (Collins) Marin
Cheryl K. (Collins) Marin, 44, of Salem, died March 14, 2011, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, surrounded by her family. Cheryl was a lifelong resident of Salem, graduating from Salem High School in 1984. She received her Nursing Degree from Rivier College
in Nashua, fulfilling her life-long dream to be a nurse. Cheryl was Nursing Director at Prescott House in North Andover, MA. She previously worked for 14 years at Northeast Rehab Hospital in Salem. Cheryl was devoted to her family and to her
many patients. She enjoyed family traditions, going to the beach and apple picking. Cheryl was greatly involved in her daughters’ dance recitals and sports. She will be greatly missed by those who lives she touched. She was predeceased by her father, James
Collins; and her grandmother, Mildred Mercer. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and beloved husband of 27 years, Dalton Marin of Salem; mother, Winona (Richards) Collins of Salem; three daughters, Bethany and her fiancé John Pelletier, and Stephany and Kelly, all of Salem; three sisters, Donna Dobeck of Salem, Mary Powers of Georgia, and Martha Rainville of Lowell, MA; her Nursing Sisters, Holly McNamara, Kim Tremblay, Kate Faust and Karen Mason; lovable four legged friend, Jazzie; and several nieces and nephews.
