ENRICHING

In addition to the College’s enrichment programme which enables students to take part in a wide range of courses and activities from first aid to dance to sport and science clubs. Students were also able to participate in a range of events such as study tours, visits to relevant workplaces, foreign trips and visits to theatres, for example:

In April the final year BSc (Hons) Aquaculture and Fishery Management students at Sparsholt College travelled to north Spain on a study tour. In order to fund this trip, the group undertook some sponsored research for Skretting, the largest fish food producer in the UK. Using the fish trial facilities at the Sparsholt College Hatchery, the group tested different levels of rape seed in rainbow trout food.

In May 2010 the National Diploma in Countryside Management students from Sparsholt College embarked on an educational study tour to the Highlands of Scotland. The group were based at Aviemore International Youth Hostel and through a busy schedule of site visits spent 6 days learning about the management of Cairngorm National Park and the immediate surroundings.

June 2010 saw the start of another successful Andover College Arts Festival 2010 featuring arts exhibitions, live music gigs, drama performances, dance workshops and shows, film making and cabaret finale.

Sparsholt College’s Sport and Outdoor Education Department helped more people get active following their recent donation of seven mountain bikes to local charity God Unlimited (GUL). Situated in the heart of Salisbury Plain, GUL is a Christian outdoor charity offering various activities including cycling, supervised riding, climbing, walking, camping and Equine Assisted Therapy.

• • Students from Sparsholt College designed a new garden for residents to enjoy at a Winchester nursing home.

Students contributed to their local community through raising money for charities. In addition to national events such as Children in Need, Comic Relief and Help for Heroes, locally they supported Naomi House.

To help students be ‘prepared for life’ there is a good mix of mentoring and ambassador schemes, college seminars, learner voice meetings and a newly formed Students’ Association.
