Anokha puts on the City style

Anokha restaurant in the City, which opened its doors in 2007, is located in the heart of the capital’s financial hub. We visited the restaurant on a busy Friday evening. As you walk in you are surrounded with dim lights and fea- tures. Suddenly we noticed the British Curry Awards plaque and nicely spread pictures on the wall of our PM, David Cameron, at the British Curry Awards 2009 event. In the basement, you will discover a very long and fashionable bar with a Moroccan design touch, chosen by the owner Ekbal. H. Ali and Aziz Choudhury.

The owners warmly greet you when

you arrive at the bar and will listen attentively to your requirements. The first question we raised was whether they serve halal food and they said all their meat and chicken are fresh and halal. They guided us to our allo- cated table which was very comfort- able. Poppadams and condiments were served by the time we were going through the menu. We tried their plat- ter (which consisted of king prawns, salmon and lamb chops) as we were recommended. All our guests enjoyed the starter. The various main dishes were then served. The lamb biryani (Hyderabadi specialty of slow cooked basmati rice with lamb flavoured with

a secret blend of spices) from the choice of main courses was a highlight. Served in a small pot with its lid sealed by a dough to keep the vibrant flavour and the warmth it was very original!

The menu features authentic, tradi- tional favourites as well as creative, Asian fusion dishes all made with the freshest ingredients and an eye toward light, healthy eating. And the selec- tion of fish dishes – monkfish, salmon, seabass – is unique among City Indian restaurants. Overall everything was beautifully served with a real taste of authentic and fusion cuisine

Just a stone’s throw from the Gherkin and a minute’s stroll from the Lloyds Tower, Anokha attracts a knowledge- able and loyal clientele who appreciate the fine service and the very intelligent and well-priced wine list that has met the challenge of matching vibrantly flavoured food. Anokha is both the perfect choice for business entertain- ing as well as meals with friends in a smart, contemporary setting.
