News & Views Bradford honours Prashad

Prashad, the Indian vegetarian res- taurant which starred in the final of Channel 4’s Ramsay’s Best Restaurant, has been honoured with a Civic Reception in Bradford Town Hall. The restaurant, in Bradford’s Horton Grange Road, won through to the final, beating over 12,000 establishments from across the country.

Bradford Lord Mayor Councillor Peter Hill and his wife Gillian were avid view- ers of the programme and sent letters of support and congratulations as the competition progressed.

The reception was held to recognise the achievement of Prasad in reach- ing the final, for raising the profile of Bradford and positioning the city as a destination for food lovers. The pro- gramme has also been shown on BBC America, introducing Bradford to a transatlantic audience.

Operations director at Prashad, Bobby Patel says, “We are proud to be ambas- sadors for Bradford and very grate- ful to the Mayor for recognising our achievements in this way.” Prashad was established in 1992 by Mohan and Kaushy Patel, selling tra-

ditional Indian snacks and sweets. It was subsequently developed into a restaurant offering traditional Gujarati and Punjabi vegetarian cuisine, with Mohan and Kaushy working alongside oldest son Bobby Patel and his wife Minal. The restaurant has benefit- ted from business advice and support from Bradford Council’s enterprise service Kickstart.
