Truffles and Brownies A
highly enjoyable but slightly messy TASC (Tideswell After School Club)
visit to Tideswell School of Food took place on 24th February (during half term.) 11 children attended, all suitably armed with a block of chocolate which was soon melted and liberally spread over both themselves and the furniture; some of it was also turned into delicious petit fours and truffles which they took home to eat.
Once the children had made their chocolates they then decorated them using exciting things such as gold stars and different coloured edible glitter. The finished products looked fantastic and they were all justifiably proud of their efforts. I also have it on good authority from several parents that the finished items were delicious! As well as making chocolates they also created their initial using cress seeds which they took home to grow and eat.
An excellent morning was had by all and we really look forward to welcoming TASC back in the near future.
and then the Brownies came
On the 1st March the Tideswell Brownie pack visited the School of Food to take part in a basic food hygiene and kitchen utensil lesson specifically designed to allow them to achieve their Cooks badge. After their arrival they were shown to the conference room where they could all enjoy the incredible view over the village and where the activities were going to take place. All the important aspects of food hygiene and safe storage were discussed in an entertaining way and the

girls really impressed me with their prior knowledge of all the aspects involved (particularly the more obscure kitchen implements!)
After this, on two consecutive Tuesday evenings Tideswell School of Food hosted cookery sessions for the girls where they learnt to measure out ingredients and make chocolate buns. They were then all shown how to make fondant icing flowers to decorate their finished buns which looked great! A fantastic time was had by all concerned and each of the girls took home four buns to enjoy. All behaviour was impeccable and everyone involved deserves to be proud of the way the children conducted themselves; we look forward to welcoming the Brownies back very soon.
This was another enjoyable community activity provided at minimal cost to the participants.
