On the Beat A
I am pleased to report that since my last report, there has been no acquisitive crime,
such as theft, burglaries or assaults reported to the police in any of our villages. This is good news but we need to be alert to strangers.
I know this is difficult in a popular tourist area such as ours. What does a thief look like? Thieves come in all shapes, sizes, colours, creeds and can be male or female, young or old. Most people have that special ability to know when someone is snooping about. If you see something, please call us!
We are here to serve and help you, and will do our best to attend quickly.
The wave of information that we have received about vehicles that patrol our villages looking for scrap is an good example. As result of the information received, checks on these persons has resulted in the arrest of the drivers and passengers for theft and on occasion their vehicles seized because they do not have the correct insurance cover. Please help us to help you and ring the police about anything suspicious.
A warning to shop keepers and licences premises. A man has been reported in Bakewell recently for “Ringing The Changes”.
This offence involves a person who buys something that is small in value and a quick detailed conversation will confuse the shop keeper or licensee that he/she has not given sufficient change and will be conned into handing over more change than they should have done.
These people have practised their art and are very good at what they do, please be aware of this tactic to steal from you.
Tideswell Youth Club
When PCSO Briggs is on a late shift he will be attending the youth club on a Tuesday and Wednesday evening to meet with the youth of

the village and also patrol on foot. This is a good opportunity for Phil to engage with the local youth and provide a high visibility assurance in the village on those evenings.
Pub Watch
I am bringing together all 18 Licensees from my patch (Beeley to Tideswell) for a meeting this month. This will be to further develop PUB watch beyond Tideswell in to all the surrounding villages that I patrol. This will give the licensees a position of strength to deal with the extremely small number of people who cause issues from time to time.
Any person who commits an act of violence or is involved in a drug-related incident on or outside licensed premises will be liable to a banned from those licensed premises for a period of time determined by the licensees.
On a lighter note I would like to draw your attention to the below invitiation.
If you would like to help set future priorities for The Tideswell and Area Villages Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team then please come along to the next Community Villages Forum meeting; 7pm Monday, 11th April 2011 at the Cressbrook Village Club. A village car park is available at the top of the village near the junction.
