THE RACE TO SAVE LIVES Quickens Pace


In recent years, there has been an increasing trend of using Chicago-based marathons as a catalyst for charitable organization fundraising.


One great example of this type of fundraising effort is the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. The 34-year-old marathon officially established its charity program in 2002 after becoming a well-known venue for cause-based running.


“The Bank of America Chicago Marathon has been a driver of economic impact and charitable giving across the Chicagoland area since its inception,” says Tim Maloney, Bank of America Illinois Market President.


According to a study of the 2009 race conducted by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s Regional Economics Applications Laboratory, the marathon generates an annual economic impact of $150 million for the City of Chicago. Last year, 150 charities and 10,000 charity runners participated in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon to collectively raise $12 million for these charities.
