Schaumburg WHY YOU SHOULD CARE


Schaumburg, a community of around 75,000 just northwest of Chicago, has a lot to off er to area athletes. T e Spring Valley Nature Center, part of the Schaumburg Park District, off ers 135 acres of natural and historical attractions. More than three


miles of hiking trails give visitors a chance to see the center’s fi elds, forests and marshes, while those interested in Schaumburg’s past can visit the Heri- tage Farm or Merkle Cabin on the property.


Schaumburg also has a vibrant biking commu- nity with a network of paths around the village.

Chicagoland Spring Marathon and Half Marathon MAY 15, 2011


The Chicagoland Mara- thon is a Boston qualifier that gives runners a tour of the business district of Schaumburg before taking them into Busse Woods for a varied run. The half marathon is also part of the Chicago Half Marathon Series.

The Schaumburg Bicycle Club participates in rides throughout the year in both Schaumburg and other locations. The club also meets once a month in the Schaumburg Barn, located at 231 S. Civic Drive. Information on joining the club can be found at www.schaumburgbicycleclub.org.


Arlington Trotters


The Arlington Trotters have runs throughout the northwest suburbs. While many of their runs take place in Arlington Heights, every Saturday morning the club runs through Busse Woods. They also sponsor a Beer Run in the Busse Woods on the third Thursday of the month from May through August.

Dick Pond Athletics 927 S. Roselle Road Schaumburg, IL 60193 (847) 985-9720 Dick Pond opened their Schaum- burg location in 2005 and has been providing the area with running and wrestling gear ever since. The Schaumburg store hosts fun runs every Monday at 6 p.m. They also have a walk-to- run program that meets Wednes- days at 6:30 p.m. A new session starts on April 6.


Bike Connection 1226 N Roselle Road Schaumburg, IL 60195 (847) 882-7728 Bike Connection is heading into its 39th year of business in Schaum- burg. They sell a variety of bikes, equipment and gear and have a complete service department that can take care of everything from assembly to tune-ups.

Cyclists can use these to paths to access the Busse Woods and Poplar Creek Forest Preserve or to participate in Bike to Work Week and the Fahrrad Tour von Schaumburg, both of which will take place near the end of May.
