Lorena Vasquez-Inzunza, a fourth-grader at Basha Elementary, was chosen to be an Arizona Student Ambassador for the People to People Ambassador Program. She will travel to Australia in June along with 39 other student ambassadors from Arizona.

Katelyn Moore of Hamilton High School is the 2011 East Valley Youth of the Year for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley. Along with the award, Moore won a $20,000 scholarship on behalf of the Victoria Lund Foundation, a long-time supporter of the Boys & Girls Club of the East Valley. Katelyn will now compete against other Boys & Girls Club members at the state level.
Zachary Egan of Chandler earned placement on the Dean’s List for the fall semester of the 2010 academic year at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.
Joshua Allen Aiken and Stephen Andrew Aiken of Chandler were named to the Dean’s List at Washington University for the Fall 2010 semester. Both are graduates of Hamilton High School.
Lauren Mahoney of Chandler was named to the Dean’s List for Fall 2010 at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York.

MERIT FINALIST: Christopher Recher of Gilbert High School is a National Merit Scholarship finalist, due to his outstanding high school records and SAT score and endorsed and recommended by his school principal.
Lisa Elkin of Chandler was named to the Dean’s List at University of Albany in New York.
Madison Bruce, Katelyn Duffy and Lauren Lancaster of Gilbert were awarded scholarships from Honeywell to attend the 2011 Honeywell Leadership Challenge Academy at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. They were among 238 students from 26 countries and 27 U.S. states chosen to attend the program.
The Gilbert Soccer Club will open a new soccer complex in March. The organization, established in the Southeast Valley in 1992, offers youth soccer programs, including the Arsenal Academy, created to help younger children transition into club play. EXCELLING: Justine DeMarco, Caitlyn Fischman, Rachel Hyneman, Tayler Jenkins, Katie Mousser, Bethany Smith, Natalie Snow and Sean Wade of Highland High School in Gilbert were chosen as finalists for the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program. The selection of 8,400 Merit Scholarship winners from the group of more than 15,000 is now in progress.
