Parenting classes offered at TRC


Move over, “Dog Whisperer” and “Super Nanny.” Chandler has “The Kid Whisperer,” also known as Ruth Lucas of Lucas Seminars.


After many years of helping people with marital and parenting issues, “Miss Ruth,” as many call her, decided use her life experiences, education and training to serve the Chandler community by starting her own consulting business. Her company, Lucas Seminars, provides practical methods to navigate the many challenges faced in marriage and parenting. Her “Marriage 911” classes start at 6:30 p.m. Thu., March 31 at Tumbleweed Recreation Center. It will help with unresolved baggage from youth or previous relationships, intimacy, resentments and more. Currently Lucas is facilitating classes on Becoming a Love and Logic Parent at a major microchip manufacturing company, which is offering supportive resources to their staff that promote work and life balance.


The next series begins at 6:30 p.m. Fri., April 1 at Tumbleweed Recreation Center for those interested in taking the stress out of parenting and “want to enjoy raising their kids while increasing the odds that their kids will grow up to be respectful, responsible, productive, confi dent, independent and considerate adults.”

Chandler Regional Medical Center is ranked first among medium-sized acute care hospitals in Arizona, according to the recently released “2011 Ranking Arizona: The Best of Arizona Business.” This is the fifth time in the last six years that Chandler Regional has earned that distinction. “Ranking Arizona” is an annual public opinion poll organized by Arizona Business Magazine, and is the largest business poll in Arizona ranking various businesses from hospitality and entertainment to real estate and healthcare. In addition, Chandler Regional Medical Center also is now certified as a Primary Stroke Center from the Joint Commission. The certification designates the hospital as “a facility that demonstrates exceptional effort in treating and improving long-term outcomes for stroke patients.” According to the National Stroke Association, strokes affect an estimated 700,000 people annually, and are the leading cause of serious, long-term disability in adults.


The Gilbert Chamber of Commerce’s website receives an Excellence Award from the Western Association of Chamber Executives (WACE), which represents 850 chamber professionals from 15 states. Sokikom (so-kee-kom) of Chandler launches its online math social learning game for elementary students. The company won three SBIR grants from the U.S. Department of Education, was voted the number one presenting company at the 2010 Invest Southwest Conference and conducted three learning efficacy studies that “have proven that playing Sokikom leads to higher math test scores,” says founder and CEO Snehal Patel.
