WHS Recognizes National Epilepsy Awareness Week
submitted by Belinda Sinclair Have you, your family, or your friends been affected by epilepsy? About 1 out of a 100 people are diagnosed with epilepsy. This condition effects about 50 million people worldwide. My 94-year-old great-grandmother and two of my teammates live with this condition. I have been taught to “Think Globally ... Act Locally” by my family and my school. That is why I am running the Epilepsy Awareness Week at the Windham High School.
I am seeking donations of gift certificates, products, or services that
would appeal to both male and female high schoolers, as well as our faculty. We will be selling raffle tickets in the school the week of March 21-25, and on Friday, March 25, we will raffle off all of the donations. Money raised from ticket sales will go to Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE). You can contact me, Kaytlin Sinclair, at 275-6307 with any donations
that you would like to make. Thank you for helping me to make a difference!
Political Signs Must Come Down
submitted by Tim Corwin, Zoning Board of Adjustment/Code Enforcement Administrator, Windham Election Day is over, and whether your candidate won or lost, there’s one thing we can all be happy about— no more campaign signs. Just a friendly reminder that it’s time for all political signs to come down as soon as possible. Keep in mind that signs may only be removed by the state, the town, the campaign whose sign it is, or the property owner on whose property the sign was placed. Defacement of any political signs by any one other than the owner of the property on which the sign is placed is strictly prohibited under state law. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Tim Corwin, Zoning Board of Adjustment/ Code Enforcement Administrator at 432-3806 or email@example.com
Exclusive Technology Now Available from Windham FIRST Robotics
submitted by Lisa Haswell Do you want to save money, help the environment,
and invest in science and math in your own community? FIRST Robotics has introduced the FIRST Green E-Watt Saver, an exclusive, state-of-the-art, 7-watt/450-lumen LED light bulb that replaces up to a conventional, 60-watt household light bulb. This is not your average light bulb and you can get it only from the Windham FIRST Robotics Team 3467.
Unlike compact, fluorescent light bulbs, which were the most recent introduction to environmental lighting, these FIRST Green E-Watt Saver bulbs contain no mercury and no lead, which means no special disposal. Further, they are instant on and off—no waiting for them to warm up. LED bulbs are the latest in lighting technology with
an average life of 10,000 hours—over nine years. They utilize only 10 percent of the energy of traditional bulbs. These exclusive E-Watt Savers are available for only $20— comparable bulbs can be found at local stores for over $38. Seeing a demonstration of these bulbs or purchasing from Windham FIRST Robotics Team 3467 is easy. Simply e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org
. The Windham High School FIRST Robotics was recently honored with an invitation to attend the three- day international FIRST Robotics Championship, to be held in St. Louis, MO, from April 27-30. The team needs $10,000 funding and sponsorships to make this happen. Please consider purchasing light bulbs or sponsoring this young and ambitious rookie robotics team. The wee little Leprechauns seem to play in such a whimsical way, Though without doubt they can surely be so bold, For theirs is an Irish tradition every St. Patrick’s day, When the Leprechauns must stand their ground and fight to keep their gold. If you catch a Leprechaun and then you set him free, He’ll grant you a magical and mystical wish, He will promise you of much gold there is to be, But with his lightning speed he will surely vanish. This is a lesson to be learned, That the luck of the Irish has to be earned.

practices twice per week for an hour each, and extending this time an additional hour per week during playoffs. She also finds time to snowboard and ski, which Danielle feels helps her hockey skills, stating that the movements are very similar in both sports. “It’s been a very exciting year and I have really enjoyed the competition,” enthused Danielle, who is currently a seventh grader at St. Patrick’s School in Pelham. “My favorite part of playing hockey is the anticipation of seeing who is going to win.” Primarily playing in the left wing position, Danielle scored three goals and several assists throughout the 2010-2011 hockey season, helping propel the Lady Hurricanes to an eventual victory in the NH State Championship.

The regular season record for the team was 5-1-4, placing them in second overall. Winning the playoff game against the Dover Stars, they went on to lose against the Hudson Cyclones, which pitted them against the number-one seed Seacoast Lightning. They won and advanced to the championship round against Hanover, and tasted the sweet flavor of victory again after a record five overtimes. The Lady Hurricanes are currently ranked first in the U12 Mid East Division in the Middlesex Yankee Conference Girl’s Hockey League (MYCGL), and they will now go on to the regional competition in Exeter on the weekend of March 11, where they will take on teams from Maine, Vermont (2), Rhode Island, and Connecticut (2). If they win, the Lady Hurricanes will advance to nationals in Anaheim, CA. Looking ahead, Danielle is already trying out for the Lady Hurricanes for next season—when they will be known as the Flames. The team’s home ice is at the West Side Arena in Manchester, and Trisha, Danielle’s mother, noted that the team is always looking for more girls and supportive fans. Games at the arena are free for spectators. For more information about the Lady Hurricanes, arenas, or games, visit www.la
