Elsevier’s ScienceDirect is the world‘s largest database of full text peer reviewed scientific journal articles and holds around 10 million articles in digital format, some dating back to the 1820s. Around 250,000 new articles are added each year. ScienceDirect provides extensive online functionality to 10 million users globally, such as live links to cited articles, RSS feeds, and e-mail alerts. ScienceDirect delivered over 600 million full text article downloads in 2010, i.e. over one and a half million article downloads per day and has delivered over 3 billion downloads since 1999.
Students, researchers and faculty at subscribed institutes have unlimited access. Users can access, download or print content without any digital rights management restriction.
Users can even take their research with them, with the SciVerse mobile applications. Elsevier project customer growth for the ebook element of the service at 20% per annum, whilst usage growth is currently running at 50%.
ScienceDirect eBooks significantly improve the productivity of students, researchers and faculty by offering: • Faster information retrieval through regular and advanced searching (e.g. chemical structure searching) across relevant sources (e.g. search also includes journal articles and patents)
