Economic Development


Economic Development in Giles County is on the move with projects such as NanoSonic, Inc., Carilion Giles Community Hospital, a new Professional Park, and Glen Alton Farm to name just a few. Giles County makes economic development a top priority and makes every effort to balance the need for economic growth with the need to protect the precious environment that makes this such a special place to live.


Giles County has made a tremendous commitment to provide infrastructure along the Rt. 460 corridor that extends east to west. Highspeed, broadband and WiFi service is available to a large portion of the county.


This county has so much to offer prospective industries with our geographic location and transportation infrastructure which allows four-lane access to Interstate 81, only 15 minutes east and Interstate 77, only 15 minutes to the west. The potential workforce for these industries includes more than 10,700 graduates annually from our numerous nearby colleges and universities including Virginia Tech and Radford University.


Tourism is now considered one of the fastest growing segments of the county’s economy. With more than 37 miles of the majestic New River, countless miles of trout streams and creeks, 92 square miles of Jefferson National Forest, and the beautiful Mountain Lake, Giles County is quickly becoming the playground of outdoor enthusiasts.
