Chiropractic Works – Healing Your Body Naturally All chiropractic techniques have something
valuable to offer. The chiropractic profession serves as an umbrella to a large number of alternative approaches to healthcare. So it’s not surprising that there are so many definitions of what chiropractic is and what it is not. According to the Council on Chiropractic Education, chiropractic care has been proven to reduce pain, increase range of motion, and reduce muscular spasm. That being said, many techniques take the next step by offering additional benefits. At Chiropractic Works, we focus on the
structural correction of the spine. While our initial interest is the eliminations of your pain, our fundamental goal is to restore your spine to as close to its normal alignment as is possible. While this isn’t always possible, it’s important to understand that the closer the human body is to its normal alignment, the better it will perform. We are not claiming that this technique is superior to other chiropractic procedures; it’s simply a different approach that is supported by an enormous amount of research. Because of our commitment to your health, we focus our sights on the true cause of your condition, not simply the symptoms. Symptoms are important, but alleviating a symptom usually doesn’t correct the condition. Does a pain down the left arm necessarily indicate a problem with the left arm? Could it also be a heart-related
Donna’s Place
Donna’s Place, at 28 Lowell Road in the Brook Plaza, will be celebrating its fifth year in October. ”As the owner, I can’t believe it’s been that long. Opening Donna’s Place is the best thing I have ever done, besides having two wonderful children. I wake up every day truly enjoying what I do; we take pride in everything we do at Donna’s Place. My customers are great, and I always listen to their suggestions and criticisms. Their input is always considered and I am always trying to improve service, think of new specials, what to remodel next, or what new foods we will bring you in the spring,” says Donna Holmes, owner. Donna’s Place can accommodate 52 people at one time. Customers have a choice between comfortable booths or tables that are capable of accommodating up to a party of 16 people, or you can get an order to go. We have three flat-screen
TVs, crayons and coloring papers for the kids, and a wall full of local business cards to browse over while you’re waiting for a table. There are a lot of people that just don’t feel like breakfast in the morning, so we have decided to give people a choice. After 8 a.m. on weekdays and after 10 a.m. on Saturday, you can have a hot dinner with mashed potato and a vegetable, burgers and fries, a sandwich, homemade soup, or a salad … anything on our lunch or breakfast menu.
Donna’s Place is open six days a week (closed
on Tuesday). On Sundays we serve only breakfast, opening at 7 a.m. and closing at 1 p.m. Saturday hours are 5:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. On weekdays, we open at 5:30 a.m. and close at 2 p.m., with lunch available after 8 a.m. and breakfast all day long. Come check us out—we’d love to see you!

and more! 11:00am Cheers to America’s Pets
America’s Pets LLC in Hudson is a real pet lover’s pet store that offers a customized, holistic approach to pet care. The friendly, dynamic, and knowledgeable mother-daughter co-owners, Lill Marks and Kristi Griego, are the heart and soul of the business, its unique philosophy, and wild success. First and foremost, America’s Pets offers dry, canned, frozen, and
even raw dog and cat food. The brand names on the shelves might not be common to some, but neither are the ingredients inside. “We specialize in high-caliber, organic, and holistic pet foods tailored to each dog or cat’s individual dietary needs,” shared Marks. “While our offerings cost a few more dollars up front, because there are minimal fillers, you feed your pet much less, which typically results in short-term returns in cost, not to mention less waste product,” she added. The maximum nutritive
values in our premium foods also result in many long-term savings (averted vet bills) and priceless benefits like the healthier, happier, and longer life of your dog or cat. A full-service pet store, America’s Pets also offers
natural supplements and products like vitamins, oils, ear and eye wash, natural kitty litter, Frontline, and natural alternatives like Dream Coat. “We offer pet supplies, crates, toys, and lots of personal pet advice on everything from dietary needs to training,” shared Griego enthusiastically. “In addition, we have full-service grooming on the premises.” As one long-time customer, Jillian Davis, pointed out with a smile,
“The first clue that this isn’t your typical big-box pet store is there are stools around the counter.” Like a neighborhood Cheers bar for pets, the stools are typically filled with customers stopping by to chat with Lill, Kristi, other staff members, and the warm customer/pet network they’ve created. “I can buy my pet food anywhere,” admitted Davis, who lives in Nashua. “I come here for the personal service and expertise—these guys really know and believe in their products.” She also added that “they offer everything, it doesn’t cost any more, and the atmosphere is a lot more fun.” Most impressively, Davis credits America’s Pets with saving her
beloved dog a few years ago. She bought a sick Maltese from a mall pet store to avoid his almost-sure death. Under the advice of a vet friend, the plan was to buy him, treat him at a vet hospital, and bring him back. “The return part didn’t work because I instantly fell in love with Mozart,” laughed Davis. For months, the hypoglycemic pup did well, but he suddenly took an inexplicable nosedive. “Lill

quickly figured out the dog food formula we’d been using had been changed without notice, which no one else knew.” Through their complimentary dietary consult, Davis happily found the right food for her “Poopsie,” and she reports that he’s “acting like a healthy, active puppy again.” Other customers clamor around the stools with similar testimonials. “I worked at vet clinics for years, and sadly saw the frequent
repercussions of poor pet nutrition,” warned Griego. “Many commercial pet foods are full of fillers, by-products, fat, artificial color, sugar, salt, and toxins like BHT/BHA and ethoxyguin [similar to Agent Orange], used as preservatives,” she added. Ear infections, hot spots, urinary tract infections, incontinence, diabetes, allergies, and digestive problems are just a few of the common and often preventable maladies associated with poor pet nutrition. Sadly, some vets – not all – don’t support better nutrition. Their collective personal experiences as “frustrated pet owners” and Griego’s professional background are what primarily led Marks
and Griego to open America’s Pets in October 2002. “We weren’t happy with what was out there and thought owners and pets deserved better,” explained Marks. “Our focus has and will be on preventative and holistic pet care with an individualized approach.” The customer response has been phenomenal and has led the
mother-daughter team to move to their current 4,000 square-foot shop.
A key America’s Pets message is to “educate and empower
yourself.” Marks recommended, “Go online, read books, like Foods Pets Die For by Ann Martin,” but she also warned, “You’ll need Kleenex reading some of the pet tragedies.” Griego advises, “Don’t even take our word for it – turn the bag over – read and know the ingredients panel.” America’s Pets is a special kind of pet store for owners who really
love their pets. Call 881-9247, or pull up a stool at 142 Lowell Road in Hudson to chat with Lill or Kristi or their staff, Ashleigh and Samantha, as well as their groomers, Erica and Cindy.

problem? Unfortunately, many people have become accustomed to temporary fixes and medication (which simply mask the pain). It has been well established by peer-reviewed scientific research that the loss of the normal alignment of the spine is the likely cause of many musculo- skeletal and nerve-related conditions. The loss of the normal spinal curvatures creates the perfect recipe for a neck or low back condition. Additionally, the function of the spinal nerves and their pathways to every cell in the human body doesn’t always give us a warning signal until the damage is done. As doctors that focus on structural chiropractic care, we naturally take a close look at posture. Posture is like a window into the spine. In fact, it’s an excellent indicator as to what we’ll find when we carefully examine your radiographs. Most people are very surprised to find out that years of poor posture (sitting at a computer, slouching, hours in the car) progressively causes a shift in the spine, which in turn may lead to debilitating conditions such as disc-related problems and migraine headaches. Shifts in spinal alignment are also the primary causes of muscular imbalance, muscular tension, early joint degeneration, and disc degeneration. In addition to working to improve the structure of your spine, we also provide many other services to help you achieve optimum health and not just temporarily relieve your symptoms.
