Windham Cooperative Kindergarten and Nursery Celebrates 45 Years of Education in the Community


Windham Cooperative Kindergarten and Nursery was founded in 1966, as a non- profit organization, by a group of concerned parents who saw the need for quality preschool education.


In 2007, the school moved to a new, state-of- the-art facility at Industrial Drive in Windham, which was built through the hard work of many involved parents and staff. The stand-alone school boasts four large classrooms, leading-edge security, lending library and conference room, full working kitchen, and a large fenced-in playground and picnic area. As a cooperative school, WCK relies on parent involvement within the Pre-K and Nursery classrooms as well as the necessary management of the school. As an extension of our deep connection and commitment to the community, WCK is active throughout the year collecting donations for Helping Hands, Shepherd’s Pantry, Windham Women’s Club, and Salem Family Resources and others. For 45 years, WCK has fostered parent


involvement and volunteerism as a wonderful way to support a child’s education experience.

Spring Floods Wreak Havoc on Your Home


One of the worst things that happen this time of year is spring


floods. I am Roland Cormier, owner of Roland’s Carpet Cleaning. We are a Hudson-based business with over 40 years experience in the carpet cleaning business. crawling along using only her front legs to pull her. She had been hit by a car and we do not know how long she had been on the highway struggling … nobody stopped to help her. But Rainey had a guardian angel watching over her that day, as she was finally rescued by the Menifee County Rescue in Kentucky.


Menifee determined that both of Rainey’s back legs were dislocated and one of her knees on her back leg was broken. She was given vet care, which repaired the dislocated hips, and was taken into foster care by the rescue worker who found her on the highway. She was then rehabilitated in a prison program. All of the inmates’ families wanted to keep her, but with her condition, the rescue wanted to make sure she found a home that wasn’t going to abandon her if vet care was needed in the future.


Menifee County Rescue decided the Animal Rescue Network of New England (ARNNE) was the best opportunity for her. Rainey was transported Pelham to ARNNE in July 2010 and went immediately into one of our foster homes. Rainey proved herself to be so worthy of being rescued, as she is a very special girl who loves everyone she meets, both two- and four-legged. Everyone who has met her loves her! Unfortunately, after a couple of months in foster

care, it was apparent that one of her legs did not heal correctly. While Rainey was attending one of ARNNE’s Pet Adoption Days hoping to meet her new-forever family, she re-injured her leg. ARNNE consulted with three vets and the consensus was that her knee on her rear right leg was completely disintegrated (very painful condition, but we never knew it because Rainey is always so happy and never showed signs of being in pain) and that the hip on that same leg had not healed properly. ARNNE made the decision to have her leg amputated and were told by the vets that she wouldn’t be able to walk for two weeks. We were so excited and amazed that the very next day after her surgery, Rainey got up and walked like nothing had ever happened! That is our Rainey … truly an amazing dog! We are very happy to report that Rainey was officially adopted by her forever family at our December Pet Adoption Day. And how ironic that her Dad has worked fabricating


prosthetics his whole life! They tell us that Rainey has continued to astound them with her recovery efforts and cannot imagine life without this sweet girl.
