9. Reward charts and stickers – wouldn’t it be nice if everything we do in life brought us a reward. Unfortunately, things just don’t work like that. Some things are just expected to be done. If you reward your child for things that he is expected to do, he will not learn the real reasons for doing things. She should pick-up her belongings because she is part of the family and everyone helps out not to get a ticker on a chart. Save the stickers for monumental goals such as: giving up the pacifier, sleeping through the night in his own bed, or potty training.

10. Prioritize play – teachers say that the children today need to learn how to play. Their time is so structured with different outside activities,

that they are not

always capable of imaginative play. Don’t be afraid of telling your children to go play. You do not need to entertain them 24/7. Allow them to play and explore their imaginations.

These are just a few tips from preschool teachers to help children learn to cooperate and be happy little people. Children have all good intentions to behave; sometimes it is the adults that cause the interruptions in their children’s behavior. In closing, just remember children are only children for a short time, enjoy them and give them the tools to become meaningful adults.

As an artist, author, educator and therapist/healer, Marta has studied extensively and holds numerous certifications in her field. She has shared her knowledge through workshops throughout the tri-counties and plans to continue. She will appear on the morning show South Florida Today in a segment with Trina Robinson which airs April 4th at 11:00 a.m. on NBC.

Marta’s own personal story of abuse has given her the courage to help others. She feels fortunate to be able to help people heal and is motivated by strong women she has worked with. Her goal with GHAV is to take it from a local level to a global organization that helps heal women around the world. While the public has been supportive of GHAV, she says it’s important to do more than give money. “We need to give our hearts and souls,” says Marta. “It’s not shameful to be human. We are emotional. We’re powerful in our emotions.”
