Summer

Introducing a new series of programs in music, dance and theater

Building on Success

Anchoring the extension program series is a collection of high-school and collegiate intensives geared for students on a conservatory track. New this summer are the Composition Intensive and a highly-anticipated Musical Theater Dance Intensive. The Composition Intensive led by faculty member Andy Vores is designed for high-

school students who are serious about music composition. Working with private composition teachers, students will work toward having a short piece of their original composition publicly performed by a professional string quartet.

EXCITEMENT IS RISING for a new series of extension programs launching this summer at The Boston Conservatory. Building on the success of the Conservatory’s long-standing summer programs—the Vocal/Choral Intensive and Summer Dance—the Conservatory is now introducing a new roster of programs for audiences ranging from children and high- school students to performing arts teachers and fitness enthusiasts. At the helm of the new programming is Dean Patricia Hoy, who saw an opportunity

upon her arrival in 2009 to expand the Conservatory’s offerings beyond its traditional degree and summer programs. After sharing her vision with Boston Conservatory faculty and reviewing proposals, Hoy zeroed in on new programs that would reflect “uniquely who we are while being fiscally possible.” “These new programs allow us to reach out into the community in ways that we have

been unable to do in the past,” Hoy explains. “We can now expand the knowledge of the performing arts in all three disciplines.”
