Children of cancer patients get support
Area children ages 6 to 12 who have a primary caregiver with cancer are invited to participate in a new, free support group provided by Chandler Regional Medical Center.
The support group meets from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays for six consecutive weeks, starting on April 12 and concluding on May 17. A light dinner will be served prior to each session.
The meetings will offer conversation and expression arts to help provide emotional release, relaxation and peace for each child.
The support group is offered by CLIMB, or Children’s Lives Include Moments of Bravery, which was developed by the Children’s Treehouse Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to providing emotional support for children who have a primary caregiver with cancer.
Registration for the program is required by calling ResourceLink toll-free at 877-728-5414. Chandler Regional Medical Center’s Cancer Center is located in the Morrison Building at 1875 W. Frye Rd. in Chandler.
Youth Sports training for tots
SanTan Sun area kids can get a “leg up on the competition” with B.E.S.T., Beginners Edge Sports Training, now open in Fulton Ranch Towne Center. The facility teaches sports fundamentals to children between the ages of 18 months and 13 years old, and is currently offering eight-week spring training sessions from March 21 through May 22.
“The difference between B.E.S.T. and the leagues is that, while they offer practices once or twice a week along with one game per week, we focus on teaching the skills to the children,” explains B.E.S.T. owner Mitch Goldberg. B.E.S.T. emphasizes the importance of team work and offers classes for children with no previous sports experience, as well as for those wishing to master specific skills. Programs include SoccerTots soccer training, SlamDunkers basketball training, BlitzEm football training, Lil’ Sluggers baseball training and Multi Sport four-sport training. B.E.S.T. will soon offer a cheerleading program, and party packages are available.
Fulton Ranch Towne Center is located on the southwest corner of Arizona Avenue and Ocotillo Road. For more information on B.E.S.T., or to check out the spring schedule, call 623-748-9453 or visit www.
