Clay exhibit to CCA Rosenbaum exhibit closes soon


AZ Clay, an association of clay artists dedicated to fellowship, the arts and supporting local causes, presents their 2011 Juried Exhibition at the Chandler Center for the Arts Gallery March 18 through April 16. A reception for the artists will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Fri., March 18.

March 5 - 18, 2011 Schools invited to ‘On Ensemble’


Space is still available for schools to participate in ASU Gammage’s upcoming “On Ensemble” performance, taking place at 10:30 a.m. Thu., March 24. “On Ensemble” uses the ancient instruments of taiko to infuse the rhythms of ensemble Japanese drumming with elements of hip-hop, rock and electronica. Utilizing percussion, throat singing, turntable scratching, fl ute and Japanese koto, the presentation also includes interactive explanations of the roots and infl uences of the music as well as audience participation.


ASU Gammage offers one-hour performances to students throughout the school year as part of the Scottsdale Insurance/Nationwide Foundation Performances for Students Series, to encourage students to experience the world of art and culture. Performances cost $3 per student, teacher and chaperone. An accompanying teacher’s guide fi lled with interactive lesson plans is created by ASU Gammage and provided to teachers free of charge.

Rosenbaum exhibit to close


March 12 is the last day SanTan Sun art enthusiasts will be able to view “Exploring the South: The Artworks of Art Rosenbaum” at the Chandler Center for the Arts Gallery.


The exhibit explores the works of author, musician, videographer, photographer and artist Art Rosenbaum including his paintings and murals, which offer narratives of everyday Southern life, and a sampling of his drawings.


Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Admission is free. For details, call the Vision Gallery at 480-782-2695.

Ceramic sculptor Joe Woodford of Fox Crossing exhibits his large clay and raku vessels at the 21st Annual Celebration of Fine Art through March 27. Located in the big white tents off Scottsdale Road, south of Loop 101 at exit 34 in Scottsdale, hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Tickets are $8 for adults and $7 for seniors and military.
