Deadline for early ICAN Fun Run savings More sponsors, prizes being donated for youth fundraiser


Discounted prices for the 4th annual ICAN SanTan Sun Family Fun Run & 5K fundraiser are good through Fri., March 18, when runners or walkers pay only $10 per person or $25 for family of up to fi ve people. After March 18 through race day, the cost is $15 per runner or $30 per family. Children younger than 6 are free. Corporate running groups are encouraged from area businesses.


Online registration and payment is now available through the ICAN website.


A scavenger hunt to locate a variety of animals and other items along the trail will also be available for children. All paid runners will receive a small “foot” charm and bracelet along with a goodie bag fi lled with donations and sponsor coupons after the run, and a bounce house will be available for children.


The fundraiser, which is held on the morning of Sat., March 26 at Tumbleweed Park, is for ICAN, a 501(c)(3) Chandler nonprofi t that provides out-of-school time, research-based programs for youth at risk. The event is suitable for families, children, adults, seniors and serious runners and includes a 1.8-mile section for the fun run as well as a timed 3.5-mile race.

Prizes being given away that morning include 100 tickets to Pollack Tempe Cinemas; two $100 gift baskets from D’Vine Gourmet; a haircut and style from Luis A. Solis, valued at $80; a variety of art pieces from Downtown Chandler Art Walk artists; $25 Costco gift card; and donations to ICAN have been committed from Audio Video Editors (AVE), Boutique Six10, Rush Dental, Healing Hearts Pediatrics, Carebear Preschool and Michael A. Pollack.


Drawing tickets are available for sale online at the ICAN website and will be sold throughout the morning for a variety of prizes. Those purchasing tickets do not have to be present to win.


Fun run details


RUNNING FUN: Run, walk or stroll down the Paseo Trail at the 4th Annual ICAN SanTan Sun Family Fun Run & 5K Sat., March 26 at Tumbleweed Park.


Sponsored by the SanTan Sun News, the City of Chandler and other local businesses, the ICAN Fun Run and 5K begins and ends under the McDowell Mountain Pavilion outside the Tumbleweed Recreation Center and proceeds down the concrete Paseo Trail and back.


Sponsors at press time include the Good Food Market in the Promenade at Fulton Ranch, which is providing fruit and goodie bags; Apex Chiropractic, Advanced Back and Neck Care of Ocotillo, Blacker Orthodontics, Aspen Orthodontics, Mona Vie, Rush, Z-Ultimate Self Defense Studios, SWIMkids USA and Relaxing Touch Massage will have informational tables; Realtor Carrie Maes is the running charm


Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on March 26. The timed 5K portion begins at 8 a.m., and the Fun Run starts at 8:10. Information booths by local businesses will be available before and after the run, with business sponsorship vendor spaces available for $125 on a fi rst-come, fi rst-served basis. It’s $50 to be a goodie bag sponsor and place items in the more than 300 goodie bags. Prizes are still being sought that will be given away to those who purchase drawing tickets for $1 each or $5 for six tickets. Interested businesses can call 480-732-0250 for details.
