CROSS COUNTRY ROUNDUP: MEN A mixed season so far

ith the Complete Runner league the men managed to field 13 runners at the first fixture finishing eighth team and eight men supported the second race at Huddersfield with the team ninth. Both times Tom Adams has had outstanding results, finishing fifth and seventh. Some 21 men asked to be entered in the Complete XC league races and only five have managed to run the first two; should we change our aims for next season?

The Peco league has fallen on its face to date due to the clash with our own 5 mile

Since the last Newsletter there have been counting races in all three disciplines in the League: road, xc/trail and fell.

Nick Pearce has sewn up the fell competition. With 90+ points in four counting fell races he has shown his quality and by completing all six fell races he has shown his commitment to the League – well done Nick!

Nick also leads the overall competition in the League, but as three races from each discipline have to count (and four races from one discipline to make 10 races), Nick needs a good road result at the Thirsk 10 to guarantee the stalking horses will not beat him to the final hurdle, if you know what I mean ...

The xc/trail competition is still led by Mark Mon-Williams but there are some quality points-scorers with only three races in the bag who could steal the competition with a good fourth result at the Chevin Chase.

And finally on the road, 50+ Harriers at Ben’s Run have swelled the League spreadsheet. Henry Heaviside’s position as King of the Road looks safe, with Fell Captain Dave Wilby

road ‘Ben’s Wish to Walk’ race. Only four men made it to the start line so we finished seventh and last place. Now having given the other clubs a great head start can we pull it back?

The three championship events start in the New Year but I would like to know if anyone would like to run before 14 December. 9 Jan: Yorkshire XC Champs, Doncaster 29 Jan: XC Champs, Sunderland 19 Feb: English XC Champs, Alton Towers
