HARRIERS OF THE MONTH to help the Club in 2011.


Coach development too is an area where we are hoping to make some progress this year. There’s a feature in this newsletter. This is one of the actions in the Development Plan, the Committee’s To Do list for the year ahead. Twenty five years


Of course, 2011 will be a special year as Ilkley Harriers will be 25 years old. The Club was founded on 1 May 1986, so we’re hoping to have a big Birthday Bash in early May. Other plans include a commemorative item of clothing for sale – perhaps a T-shirt? Or a buff? What would people like?


And we’d like to do something to promote this Birthday to runners outside the Club – how about a memento for anyone who completes 25 miles races organised by us in 2010 (we might need another new race to make this realistic!).


Annual awards


Back to the nearer future, the Presentation of Awards for 2010 will be held at the end of January. There are male and female awards for best runner of the year, most improved runner, best runner under 20, best endurance runner (off road or on), and (volunteer) contribution to Club. These awards are determined by the Committee at the meeting in January so we need your nominations by then. There will be forms available on Club nights in December and a way of nominating by email or post if you can’t get down to Club in that time.

Jeff Paget, Leicester marathon in 2:59:23, 1st V55, 1st V50, 22nd overall and club record


Geoff Howard, Selby 10 mile in 66:29, 1st V60 and V65 club record


ALSO NOMINATED: Martin Wright, 2 marathons in 1 month; Amanda Parnaby, Rowbotham’s Round Rotherham 50 mile Trail Race; Colin Lugton, David Millson and Don McCrae, 2nd MV60 team at Yorkshire Vets Road Relays;


The Ladies Ian Hodgson Mountain Relay team;


Chris Matthews, 1st FV55 Italian half marathon and club record; Heather Dawe and Andrea Priestly, 1st in Original Mountain Marathon (OMM); Derek Fuller, OMM result.


LONDON MARATHON: The five Club places have gone to: Martin Wright, Emma O’Looney, Paul Sugden, Mike Picken and Jules Carter.
