Member profile: Tom Adams PBs

I’m not really one for keeping PBs, but I think I ran Ilkley’s 5K time trial in just over 16 minutes.

Favourite race

Picking a favourite race is really difficult because there are just so many. Hebden Sports is probably one of my favourites, the whole day is really good fun. Oh, and we can’t forget the Bunny Runs – choctastic!

Most satisfying/successful race It probably has to be Shepherd’s Skyline this year. I ran neck-to-neck with Ian Holmes throughout the entire seven mile race, with him just pipping me at the end. I’ll get him next time!

Most disastrous/frightening race I wouldn’t say it was a disaster, but the Yorkshire Three Peaks this year was a real struggle. I didn’t take on enough fluids and I was completely exhausted going up Whernside. How I ever finished I’ll never know. One thing I did know, was that I had very sore muscles for a few weeks afterwards.

Favourite place to run

One of my favourites has to be up Simon’s Seat near Appletreewick, or perhaps Jacobs Ladder in the Peak District.

Favourite local route

Anywhere over my beloved Baildon moor. Goals for the future?

Still be running/cycling/swimming when I’m seventy.

Did you know? Don’t quote me on this, but I read somewhere that athletes dressed in red are more likely to win events than athletes wearing any other colour.

Right: Tom Adams a few paces ahead of Ian Holmes (Bingley), Shepherd’s Skyline, 6 November
