year for races

have been some wonderful performances at every level, and some great turnouts at races of all types. The atmosphere at the Mob Match where we beat Bingley at their own race, again; and at the HDSRL races; was wonderful, with strong Ilkley performances, lots of mutual support, and a good social mix afterwards. I would still like to see us doing a little better at relays. A special mention to Vic Verecondi who ably organised a Bradford Millenium Way Relay team and is now turning his thoughts to the Leeds Country Way Relay. There’s a couple of accessible relay events coming up very soon (Washburn Valley, Golden Acre Park) and these are ideal both for Club spirit and involving new members, so let’s see lots of people out there. Hopefully these will whet your appetite for the more serious relays later in the year – Leeds Country Way, YVAA road relays, and the fell relays – Ian Hodgson, FRA and Calderdale. At most races you are expected to wear an Ilkley Harriers vest, and at some races it is a rule, so please get yourself kitted out at Complete Runner or Dobson & Robinson if you have not already. two of these Away Runs as part of our commitment to maintain a (roughly) monthly social event.

The newsletter is a crucial part of the Club, a source of inspiration and entertainment, and I’m looking forward to Richard’s first issue! [thanks Paul, no pressure then! – Ed.] Thanks to him for taking on this serious task. Please make it easier for him by sending in lots of interesting articles – we want to hear your interesting running stories. Finally we are now a good way through our term as a Committee and the September AGM will come round all too quickly. There’s been progress this year with new races, new social events, Club kit, and the continuation of all that is good in Harriers like the excellent training program. Thanks to everybody who has helped with all of this. Next year is our 25th Anniversary Year so let’s make it the biggest and best year yet for Ilkley Harriers.
