2010 COMMITTEE REPOR TS

2010 EVENT COMMITTEE REPORTS BALLADEERS COMMITTEE

MAC’s classic glee club has reached two significant milestones: the 70th anniversary of the group’s founding, and the 35th consecu- tive year of Dr. Roger Doyle’s tenure as director.

W In January, the “Men of Multnomah”

entertained members with a 70th anniver- sary concert in celebration of this history, and as a special tribute to Doyle, who is retiring. His contribution to the Balladeers has been immeasurable, and he is largely

responsible for the group becoming the legacy it is today. The concert featured many Balladeer alumni, notably Doug Cooley, who not only led the program but has been instrumental in its success as he has taken the reigns as interim director. In 2010, the Balladeers continued their strong tradition of community outreach as MAC ambassadors. In addition to performing for various audiences both in and out of the club, the group coordi- nated another successful Brothers Sing On concert, featuring area men’s choirs ranging from high school on up. Participation continues strong as we added several new voices during the past year: John Wykoff at baritone, Doug White at second tenor, and Richard Springer

Thanks go to the Balladeers Committee for their passionate service; our esteemed director, Doyle; our invaluable interim director, Cooley; and our incomparable accompanist, Paul Nelsen. Special thanks go as well to Karl Wetzel for organizing the anniversary concert; Dennis Muir for his tireless administrative work; and our Member Services liaison, Abby DenUyl, for bringing everything together. Committee members were Dick Allen, Spencer Snow, John Gould, Stan West, Muir, Bill Dugan and Dan Scribner. WM
