Our year began with a wonderful ceremony and dinner for the Al Tauscher Award, which honors up to five junior members and five teen members of the club. A subcommittee is in charge of reviewing the applications and selecting the award recipients. Currently a subcom- mittee led by Horswell is working on this year’s award, which is given in May. Another award selected by our committee is the McAlpin Award. This subcommittee was led by Sullivan. The award is given to a member who shows extraordinary service to the club in the area of social activities. This year’s award was presented at the Annual Meeting in February.
During the summer a subcommittee led by Jackson was given the tough task of working out a budget for all of the activity committees. The group did a great job of working to meet the activity committee needs while at the same time keeping the Budget and Finance Committee happy. A major subcommittee was led by Wolf; its task was to help the Culture & Style Committee come up with some new and exciting events. Noall was also asked to step in as the chair midyear. The time and work that Wolf and her crew, along with Noall, put in was appreciated, and the results have been great.
A lot of what we do could not be done without the support of staff members Lori Martin, Linda Ornelas and Nicole Greider, along with board liaisons Lisa Girard, Darwin Green and John Carr. WM

Additional responsibilities of the committee included reviewing 400 resig- nations, 60 reinstatement requests and 17 medical leave of absence requests. The committee also monitored the monthly resident membership numbers and age trends.
The Membership Committee oversees the effectiveness of changes to the legacy retention program made in 2009. Legacy members now may postpone election to senior membership until age 26. Ken Williams chaired a committee- initiated effort to revise the application, proposer and reference forms to enhance the information available to the committee as it evaluates each applicant. Beginning June 2010, proposers must include a supporting letter with the application, and three references must provide more

Linda Higgons represented the Membership Committee on the parity ad hoc committee. This ad-hoc group studied the membership policies for Scholar Athletes, junior athletic and intermediate athletic members to bring them more in line with those for legacy members. The committee also included representa- tives from the Athletic Committee and Multnomah Athletic Foundation. I am appreciative of the diligence and thoroughness of the 2010 Membership Committee: Sharon Alport, Marcus Breuer, Tim Gillette, Carrie Hobson, Darcy Henderson, Higgons, Knight, Kevin Noall, Palmer, Sue Rimkeit, John Vosmek, and Williams. Trustee liaisons were Ron Neiger, Mike Buckley and John Carr. Invaluable support and knowledge was provided by Member Services Director Linda Ornelas, Member Services Manager Dave Hanna, and Member Services Specialist Kevin Pollack. We are grateful for their dedication and professionalism to provide current and comprehensive infor- mation to the committee, and subsequently the board. WM
ATHLETIC continued from page 48
We thank the Board of Trustees for its continued support on these key issues of importance to the athletic community. The budget and athletic membership committees started their year by presenting “boot camp,” a primer for all sport committee chairs to guide them through the budget process and introduce them to the member coach and athletic member- ship programs.
The long range planning subcom- mittee (Bridget Connolly, chair) had the challenging task of finalizing the sport team fee recommendations and revisions to numerous athletic policies and proce- dures for final presentation to the Board of Trustees. Many thanks go to my fellow committee
members for their hard work and support throughout the committee year. Sarah Burchard was crucial to our success with her timely administrative support, and Athletic Director Ed Stoner and Assistant Athletic Director Pete Greer provided strong assis- tance for all of our activities. Committee members were: Becker,
Callaway, Connolly, Jamie Daigle, Lorraine Lesher-Boulton, Katherine Mack, Greg Marshall, Laura Martin, Jerry Powell, Bob Radler, Robertson, Craig Ruble, Scott Stevens, Heather Waldram and Reidun Zander. WM
