Member Engagement Goals

Goals: Enhance member “ownership” in MAC by broadening member participation in the club’s spectrum of programs, committees, events, services, and other activities.

Member Engagement Strategies

A. Enhance information technology capability to more effec- tively communicate with and among members, facilitating the delivery of club information as well as the collection of member information and interests.

B. Find ways to increase membership website utilization and leverage that technology to collect meaningful data on club utilization to improve forecasting and planning.

C. Promote and expand meaningful participation in the club’s committee system of governance by enhancing participa- tion in new member orientations and actively engaging new committee members. As I’ve said many times, the commit- tees are where the action is. If you want to influence the direction of the club, you need to get on a committee.

D. Use the combination of athletic/social programs and committees, member events, common facility space and website enhancements to create physical and virtual venues to accelerate the development of communities of common interest.

E. Identify the information that should be regularly distrib- uted to members of the club.

Financial Management Goals Goals: Maintain sound business practices, revenue generation

strategies, and a conservative investment policy to enable MAC to support current operations and accumulate sufficient funds to achieve long-term goals for facility replenishment, replacement, and/or expansion consistent with this Strategic Plan.

Financial Management Strategies

A. Annually review available and anticipated revenue sources, develop operational budgets, and ensure that investment policies are aligned to satisfy current needs and to meet long-range capital funding goals.

B. Ensure that the property fund and facility replacement Fund objectives are accurately defined, linked appropriately to the needs and timing of projects outlined in approved plans, and funding assumptions are clearly defined and communicated to the membership.

C. Periodically, reassess, update, and prioritize capital project funding needs and establish specific funded accounts for all major projects.

D. Measure the club’s progress toward long-term financial goals annually, and communicate that progress to the membership. This is something Treasurer Rob just did.

Management Information Goals

Goals: Refine data-gathering and information-delivery capability to meet reporting and forecasting requirements at the board, management, and committee levels.

MAC Treasurer Rob Thompson Management Information Strategies

A. First we need to identify board-, committee- and manage- ment-level information needs with an additional emphasis on collection of facility/member utilization levels and trends.

B. Establish regular and timely reporting of this information to the board, committee members and management as appropriate.

C. Focus data collection capabilities for ad hoc reports in a manner that supports evaluation and implementation of the specified initiatives and strategies.

Again, these were the strategies proposed by the Strategic Planning Committee for future boards to act upon.

Hopefully, from this review of the member survey and the strategic plan, you have confidence in the future of your club and know that the board, the committees, and the manage- ment have the best interests of the membership in their sites. I also hope it peaked your interest in learning more about our future and that you will continue to be involved in helping the club go forward. I believe the future of the club is as bright now as it was 120 years ago. I’d like to thank the Board of Trustees for their hard work and support during the year. Thank you to Norm Rich and his excellent staff for making the MAC a premier athletic club. A special thank you to Tara Lamatta, Sara Baker and Julie Yocom for their hard work in putting together this annual meeting. And a very special thank you to my wife, Carol, for her support during my term and for her understanding of the commitment to the job while never knowing where I am. Thank You. And finally thank you for your kind attention tonight and for allowing me to be your president. It has been a great honor and a privilege. WM
