Special Affections Diamond Rings When you look at the cover of Canadian

import John O’Regan’s (aka Diamond Rings) debut album Special Af- fections, you may just dismiss it. You might be tempted to write him off, as a mere twink who got a record deal. That would be your first mistake, as

the 25-year-old Canadian has a very dis- tinctive baritone voice. His sound harkens back to the days when “mood music” was supplied by the likes of Morrissey, Depeche Mode, The Cure, and there’s even a Jim Morrison- like quality about how he interprets a song. His vocals on “Play by Heart” are nothing

short of haunting, especially with the sparse accompaniment of a melodic piano, a touch of synthesizer, and the steady beat of a drum backing him. “On Our Own” and “You and Me” are more uptempo tunes, both definitely sounding like recently unearthed long-lost Depeche Mode tracks. Comparisons to other artists aside, he

definitely brings his own unique brand of singing to the table and will leave you wanting a second helping. You can catch him in concert at The Casbah in San Diego on March 4 and the Satellite Club in Los Angeles on March 5. Available Now.

Diva Divo Joyce DiDonato Want to impress your friends at your next dinner

party? Well then, show them how cultured you are by throwing Diva Divo into your CD player, or ramp it up on your iPod. DiDonato has pulled off something of an operatic

coup with her latest effort, as she shows her range as a mezzo-soprano performer by singing arias meant for both male and female characters in one opera, and in some cases, from different melodic treatments of the same story. The collection, aside from showcasing the versatile

performer deftly tackling both gender roles, also focuses on some of her favorite composers, such as Mo- zart, and features a multitude of roles that the seasoned stage veteran has performed previously. Available Now.

Love Unlimited: The Joys and Challenges of Open Relationships

Stephan Wik and Leonie Linssen Authors Wik and Linssen offer readers a non-sensa- tionalized account of the pros and cons regarding the subject matter of open relationships. They delve into the topic, by addressing a wide variety of non-monogamous relationships within the worlds of homosexual, bisexual, polyamorous and heterosexual couples. Their findings about what works for whom and why are based on 12 real-life couples dealing with the struggles of being in an open relationship, or are practicing “responsible non-monogamy.” The book features tips on survival and gives examples of how other cultures and customs have dealt with relationships of this nature. Available Now.

Faith: Special Edition George Michael George Michael proved to the world that his time as the frontman of

Wham! wasn’t a mere pop culture fluke. The evidence came with his 1987 successful solo debut, Faith, which illustrated the transformation of his image and the type of material he covered. He created a controversy with the single, “I Want Your Sex,” and racked up a total of six top-charting singles, including the title track and aforementioned “Sex”, the R&B- infused “Father Figure,” the ballad “One More Try,” a jazz-based “Kissing A Fool” and the very danceable “Monkey.” The two-disc Faith: Special Edition features the remastered 1987 endeavor on the first disc, while the other contains remastered and remixed B-sides; that’s the backside of the “old school” 7-inch and 12-inch LPs (so I’ve heard - shut up, how did you know I still have my 12-inch vinyl copy of “I Want Your Sex”? ) Plus, there is also a DVD featuring the singer during a BBC promotional interview, as well as the videos he

released for his trium- phant album that spent a staggering 87 weeks in the Billboard 200 Album Charts. Available Now.
