new format made this year’s PCQHA Year EndAwards Banquet a huge success and a lot of fun for over 150 attendees. The event, which honored the 2010 year end award winners, was held on Saturday evening, February 12 at Calamigos Ranch at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in the beautiful Grand Ballroom. Calamigos Ranch is the catering branch of the LAEC and is famous for its elegant weddings and special events. The Show Me The Money Quarter
Horse Circuit was already being held at the LAEC during the same weekend, so it was decided to have the banquet during the same weekend since so many PCQHA members would already be there showing. It was hoped that this would make it easier and more economical for members to attend. Also, recognizing that some people might be coming directly from the horse show to the banquet, it was encouraged to dress casual and “come as you are” straight from the show to enjoy the banquet. To make it even more convenient, the dinner was a buffet rather than a sit down dinner so that any one coming in late from the show could still enjoy a fantastic dinner. Even though the “theme” was “be casual”, the Grand Ballroom was simply
elegant and beautifully appointed, mak- ing for a wonderful and prestigious atmosphere for the special evening. The festivities began with cocktail hour where everyone mingled or relaxed on comfy lounges and chairs and enjoyed catching up with friends. A silent auction was held in the cocktail area where people bid on such items as stalls at various QH cir- cuits, artwork, tack, equine themed house wares, wine, jewelry, gift baskets, and lots of other goodies. After enjoying some socializing, the
program began with the recognition of this year’s PCQHA Hall Of Fame inductees. PCQHA President-Elect Marc Ristrow, who served as MC for the evening, presented representatives of both inductees with their beautifully framed and mounted photographs and plaques. Honored this year was the late Duane Pettibone, who was a prominent California horseman, cow horse enthusi- ast, and PCQHA member who made many positive contributions to the California horse industry during his life- time. Also honored was the wonderful, accomplished horseWestphal Royal who had a phenomenal show career on both theAQHAand open “A” circuits. Hewas shown by siblings Clay and Caroline MacLeod and owned and loved by the
entire MacLeod family. Additionally rec- ognized were the PCQHA corporate sponsors – The EMO Insurance Agency, Silverado Silversmiths, Pacific Coast Journal, and Nutrena – who were thanked for their generosity and continued sup- port of PCQHA. Marc did a fantastic job as MC – he may have found a new call- ing as a game or talk show host! Attendees then enjoyed a scrump-
tious Mexican style buffet of chicken, beef, and vegetable fajitas (with all the “trimmings” and sides!), quesadillas, sal- ads, rice, beans, chips and several types of salsas and guacamole. There were numerous comments on how delicious the food was and most people were seen hitting that buffet line more than twice! Dessert of spiced apple cake with crème fraisch was served at the table. After dinner, the year end awards
presentation began. Marc Ristrow con- tinued as MC with the help of PCQHA board member Chris Hocutt-Senteney. The two did a great job together adding a little personal touch mixed with a bit of humor to announce the winners. A new format was implemented this year where- by only the names of the winners who were present that evening were announced and called up to receive their awards. It made the presentations more
special to each recipient and less “monot- onous” to the rest of the crowd! PCQHA President, Terry Skevington presented the beautiful Silverado PCQHA silver belt buckles to the Champions and Reserve
