Hike the park trails and walk in the footsteps of explorers.

Kids YOUNGS RIVER FALLS Follow Lewis and Clark’s footsteps on the trail to the 65-foot waterfall.

A packed trail leads down to the riverbed at the base of Youngs River Falls – a 65-foot pounding plummet into a pool surrounded by lush forest. It’s a popular spot for summer swimmers.

Once there, relax and enjoy a picnic. The trail to the waterfall has been improved with the addition of steps.

Interpretive panels at the site tell the story of the Corps of Discovery.

From Astoria, drive south across Youngs Bay on U.S. Highway 101 Business Loop to Miles Crossing. Turn left at the Youngs River Loop sign and continue to the sign to the falls.

FISHHAWK FALLS

In the summer, Fishhawk Falls is a winding swath of water that paints a reverse “S” across a steep rocky slope littered with drop-offs, stacked boulders and hidden grooves. Whitewa- ter ribbons peel down the right side while clear strips of water wander down the other – each looking for the path of least resistance to the 40- to 60-foot waterfall. An easy path from a gravel parking lot leads to the base of the falls.

From Astoria, head east for 24 miles along Oregon Highway 202 to Lee Wooden County Park.
