ASTORIA
SUNDAY MARKET MAY 8 - OCTOBER 9, 2011
Astoria’s Sunday Market is a lively and charming demonstration of people’s hunger for high-quality Northwest-grown produce, locally made clothing and crafts, and a host of other products with one thing in common – the human touch.
In a scene that could be centuries old, vendors set up stalls in the crisp early hours and wait for the street to come alive. A trickle of shoppers becomes a flood of families hot on the trail of treats like tree-ripened peaches and handmade tortillas. The buttery smell of fresh popcorn mingles with the aroma of the season’s last fresh strawberries, with the Columbia’s cool, pure air wafting through it all.
The Sunday Market has nearly 200 booths. Stroll leisurely up and down 12th Street, which is closed to traffic. Live entertainment, along with an international food court, enhance the day’s experi- ence. The market is open Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 8 through Oct. 9.
