Get in the swim of things at the Astoria Aquatic Center, located at 1997 Marine Drive. It offers something for people of all ages. Swim in the recreation pool while a huge sprinkler sprays sheets of water on you; fly down a 100-foot open water slide with a 20- foot drop and lazy river current; work out in the six-lane 25-yard lap pool; relax in the adult hydro-spa pool; or watch your chil- dren splashing and playing in the kiddies’ wading pool. There is also a snack bar and weight room.
Admission is $4 for youths (2 to 17 years) and $6 for adults (18 and older). A family package is available for $14. Drop-in fitness classes are available for $8. Children younger than 8 must have an adult accompany them in the water.

TAPIOLA PARK PLAYGROUND
Take the kids for an afternoon of exploration at the unique Asto- ria playground, which received the 2005 Award for Excellence by the League of Oregon Cities. “Build it and they will come,” could have been the motto for the community wide effort to build a unique playground replicating the Astoria Column, the Liberty Theater, Fort Clatsop and other area landmarks. In the span of two weeks, a whirlwind of activity by volunteers completed the one-of-a-kind “educational superplayground.”
The park is located on the southwestern edge of town across from Youngs Bay on West Marine Drive, near Astoria High School. A skate park is on the premises in the former swimming pool.
