SIXTH FORM COLLEGE Professional Guidance

Our aim is that all girls acquire the tools, transferable skills and attributes to succeed in their life beyond College. We believe they can become imaginative, enterprising and effective leaders in a wide range of professional careers. They will need a strong sense of their social responsibility and the confidence and expertise to realise their professional ambitions alongside their personal commitments. The rôle of the Professional Guidance Centre is to foster an understanding of the changing world of work and of the demands and opportunities of the high-tech, global economy; to provide opportunities to network with and take advantage of alumnae support; to encourage participation in national and international conferences and internships and to ensure that girls are well-supported in making, and taking responsibility for, the key decisions affecting their future happiness and success.

Leaving girls join Guild (The Incorporated Guild of The Cheltenham Ladies’ College). This is the world-wide organisation of former pupils, which has a department in College and a dedicated Alumnae Relations Officer. Through a combination of mailings and its website, Guild helps former pupils to maintain their strong links with College. There is a large and useful database of former pupils from which girls can build on the advice gleaned from the Professional Guidance Centre during their time at College and continue to gain contacts for work-shadowing and advice on all manner of careers.
