PEACE REGION 9

PEACE B

C’s Peace Region is a land of great lakes and rivers, fertile valleys, jagged mountain ranges, and snow-capped peaks.

The region’s Provincial Parks offer numerous year-round outdoor adventures and experiences including fishing, boating, hiking, biking, boating in the summer and skiing and snowmobiling in the winter. Located in the northeast corner of the province, the Peace Region has an endless amount of outdoor adventure and wildlife viewing opportunities.

The impressive Rocky Mountains and their foot- hills dominate the Northeast, comprising roughly 8 million ha (20 million acres) of land. There are no roads crossing the range north of Pine Pass (between Mackenzie and Chetwynd) until the Yukon border. The Northern Rocky Mountains are the largest roadless landscape south of the 60th parallel, as well as one of the richest and most varied intact large wildlife ecosystems remaining in North America.

The Peace Region’s cities and towns provide ser- vices and outdoor recreation opportunities for tourists and local residents including Chetwynd, Tumbler Ridge, and Fort St. John. Many of these towns have unique features to draw tourist audiences to the area for relaxation and to enjoy
