Hello 2011 Park Visitors!
Welcome to BC Parks!
You’ve chosen to come and visit at a pretty special time; it’s BC Parks’ 100th birthday! For a century visitors have been coming to BC Parks to experience the magic they contain. To celebrate BC Parks’ centennial, we’ll be having events in parks around the province this summer, including Parks Day (Saturday, July 16th), a perfect opportunity to come and discover what has kept visitors coming back for 100 years. It’s the special places within the BC Parks system that originally brought me to western Canada. After finishing school I came out to explore B.C.’s mountains, valleys, grasslands, lakes and rivers, and never left. As a park ranger (it seemed like a good fit!) I have a chance to interact with the entire spectrum of park visitors out there in our parks.
I can honestly say, my favourite group to talk to are the folks just getting out to visit parks for the first time. Exclamations like “I had no idea, this place is so beautiful!” and “this is right in our backyard and we never even knew!” make me smile every time.
So get out there! for a vacation, or just a day. Whether you visit with family, friends or solo, there are new experiences and adventures of all shapes and sizes waiting just beyond every trailhead and parking lot. But be careful, once you get a taste for what’s out there, you may just find yourself coming back for more (speaking from experience)!
