The Amway Grand Plaza website refers to it as the hotel’s “crown jewel restaurant,” an apt description for Grand Rapids’ first (and only) restaurant to receive the AAA Five Diamond rating. The hallmarks of fine dining are all there: opulent Louis XIV surroundings and French-influenced Continental cuisine, inventive desserts, an expansive wine list and exceptional ser- vice. Bar Divani 15 Ionia Ave. SW. 616-774-WINE (9463) WINE BAR. Sophisticated wine bar in downtown Arena District is a favorite spot for after-work sipping and noshing on creative small plates, rice bowls, flatbreads and salads, as well as a small selection of entrees. One of Grand Rapids’ most inspired restaurants in terms of overall ambiance, with Frank Lloyd Wright-style architecture, a stunningly massive fireplace, and some of the best water views in West Michigan. The food is similarly inspired, drawing from Italian, Mediterranean and classic American influences. Bombay Cuisine 1420 Lake Dr. 616-456-7055 INDIAN. The Eastown res- taurant has grown from neighborhood favorite to one of the region’s best-known spots for Indian cuisine. Downtown eatery is a great spot for business lunch or casual pre-show dinner, with a wide-ranging menu that includes salads, burgers, pasta, seafood and steaks. Near north tavern is embracing the gastro-pub philosophy with a unique new menu featuring locally sourced small plates, sandwiches and appetizers that are “familiar, but guaran- teed to surprise and excite your soul,” claims the website. Cherie Inn 969 Cherry SE. 616-458-0588 BREAKFAST. The East Hills restaurant is one of the area’s most-loved breakfast and lunch spots. A neighborhood staple for more than 60 years, the eatery offers a cozy, café- style setting complete with French flags, weathered brick walls, pressed tin ceiling, and intimate tables. Breakfast is the true star, with a variety of regular dishes like eggs Florentine and blueberry pancakes, as well as specials like red-flannel hash and almond joy pancakes.

Cherry Deli & Catering 834 Cherry SE. 616-459-6182 DELI. An expansive deli menu with 55 different sandwiches named after Grand Rapids streets. The immense menu offers 15 selections for vegetar- ian sandwiches, as well as four meat-menu items that are 98% fat free (Turkey, Ham, Roast Beef, AND Chicken!). Chez Olga 1441 Wealthy SE. 616-233-4141 CARIBBEAN. The latest tenant of the Eastown building with the funky wooden façade serves up home-style Caribbean and Creole dishes, including gumbo, red beans and rice, Haitian coffee and other specialties. » SERVING: Dinner OPEN ON: Closed Sunday. The Corner Bar 31 N. Main St. 616-866-9866 AMERICAN. The downtown Rockford tavern serves a solid menu of burgers, burritos, salads and sandwiches, but it is best known for hot dogs – serving almost 1,000 per day. The Cottage Bar 18 LaGrave SE. 616-454-9088 AMERICAN. A great spot to go for a beer and a burger before a downtown show, or after one.
