Artihove designs sculpture for Birth Center Sophia
Birth Center Sophia, situated on the roof of the Erasmus Medical Center, is part of Rot- terdam’s ‘Right to a good start’ projects. 1 out of 6 babies have a bad start in Rotter- dam and infant deaths are higher than else- where in The Netherlands. To change this, the city of Rotterdam, scientists, policy- makers and professionals started working together. The whole obstetrics chain needs to be improved. The program ‘Ready for a child’, coordinated by the Erasmus Medical Center and the GGD Rotterdam-Rijnmond is geared toward the entire obstetrics chain and improvements that must reduce ne- gative birth results in 10 years at a national level.
Artihove entered into collaboration with the foundation “Right to a good start.’

Why was the choice made to support this foundation, which collects funds for Birth Center Sophia?
Deborah Borsten, Artihove: “It is often a combination of personal involvement with a subject, a gut feeling and the power to convince the fund gathering party to support the goal in that way. Also the commitment that Daniëlle and Semiha of the foundation ‘Right to a good start’ are prepared to give within the field of pr-efforts is an important barometer. Out of experience we can say that that determines the success. This was good on all levels with Daniëlle and Semiha from the start. We were also convinced that artist Corry Ammerlaan - van Niekerk would be capable of creating something special in this theme with a high acceptance.”.
We were excited by the sketches from the first time we saw them
How did you meet? Daniëlle van Veen, project-coordinator at the foundation: “ In 2008, the Birth Center celebrated the driving of the first pile of the new development. We thought it would be nice to attach permanent memories to this. I was already familiar with Artihove and together with my colleague Semiha I went there to look for a suitable memory for this special occasion. maar absoluut boven ons budget.
